Napa 2023: the quieter version; 2/6/2023-2/11/2023 (Napa/Sonoma California): Unlike with the Sycamore here I very much can see the 2003 coming out. It was a warmer vintage and this still has a bit of the alcohol. More dried fruits. Not quite as fresh. Still an interesting wine and aging well for that time.

Tasted blind. Immediate impression is of a classy, seamless wine, similar to the Mogador next to it but more unfurled and just expansive. Juicy, a bit of fatty meat, after a bit of air this was a full spectrum wine. Revisiting an hour later and things have calmed down a bit and there's some old wood I didn't notice before, some plumpness to the fruit, and pretty apparent currant fruit so this seems like a new world Cab-based wine.

This definitely would have benefited from a decant of an hour or more - but guests couldn’t wait. I still felt it was the best bottle of the night.
