4th Saturday Brown Bagger (R&D's): Blind. Slight bricking is the tell that this is one of the older wines in the flight. Aromas of red currant, green tobacco and warm spices. Medium-bodied and integrated, featuring red berry fruit, plum and cedar flavors. Well-balanced and elegant, this is showing beautifully. A wonderful example of mature Napa cabernet at peak. This had been double decanted off its sediment ninety minutes prior to service.

IMO, the Wine of the Night for 2023 OTBN. Compared to 2009 Tor To Kalon and 2012 Phelps Backus among others. Blackberry, plum, a hint of eucalyptus, some pencil lead, all blended into and elegant, layered offering. Bottom neck fill, pristine cork and the wine tasted 10 years younger. This is the second bottle I have opened in the last three years and this one was significantly better than the last. Ample fruit and tannins, full bodied with a lingering finish.

It has been 7 years since I last tasted this and it is still singing. Medium garnet in color. Nose of berries and flowers upon opening which was surprising given this is a 26 year old wine. Still plenty of cherry, raspberry, eucalyptus and tobacco on the palate. Still a touch of tannin on a lingering finish. Yes, this wine is clearly an older wine. There is more of a glycerine feel on the palate. It has more of an old world, Bordeaux style. Fruit gives way a bit in favor of forest floor, saddle leather and cedar but this is still nicely balanced and layered. Just a great example of Ted Edwards winemaking skill.

Wonderful soft tannins although could still age longer. Cork going so maybe recork if laying down for 5+ years. Green and perizines there but well integrated. Dark yet soft. Great stuff!

Nose of pencil shavings, cinnamon, boysenberry. Saturating on the front end; completely unwound. This is adventurous with great length, acidity, and tannin. Unanimously liked by all. Though not compared side-by-side to earlier vintages, this did not show an obvious modern streak, and even struck some as 'old school'. Perhaps a reflection of this being in a perfect place now.
