Remarkably well-preserved with a vein of sweet but somewhat anonymous dark fruit, cola, tobacco, and cedar. That's about it. Hard to say if that's all this ever was or if age has faded some other characteristics, but tannin and acidity still present and in balance. 11.3% abv.

One doesn't taste many 43 year old Cal Cabs and of those one could have, few would show this well. Poured blind, guesses went to Italy, France and Spain before America came up. Exquisite sweet nose and palate with dark red fruits, pencil lead, tobacco and light caramel tones. Exquisite. Oh--and 11.3% alcohol. A Top Wine of 2015.
