Brown and bricked throughout. Bottom neck fill. Perfect cork. At first a worrying smell of lacquer. But then such an elegant wine emerges. Silky smooth mouthfeel. Smoky aroma. Plums and licorice, smooth cherry, long warm finish. Truly remarkable at 42 years. Do not decant!

Tasted in a Bosche vertical with 96, 92, 87, and 73. This was weakest of the bunch. Had a funky nose at the outset and never quite blew it off. Mature color, light with browning edge, and looked nice. Aroma and flavor of burnt spices or fruitcake. Bottle may have had issues as top of cork was mousy, but no obvious seepage and capsule and the rest of the cork looked sound. Would say it got old, but the 73 really showed it up. Less than what I hoped.

Recent K&L purchase. Base neck. Started to use the screwpull part of the Durand and just touching the cork knocked it down the neck. I got it out in one piece - soaked. Aroma was fine, so I let it sit open for a few hours, Audouze-style. Good pale color, smelled like aged Bordeaux, and the initial taste was...fine. Mild, with a tart aftertaste. It hasn't turned - it's just that it's aged into something that's more of an experience than fine wine. It continued through the night to be more educational and interesting than something I'd seek out.

Should be a higher score based on the age. This wine still has plenty of fruit and even some tannin! 11% alcohol and aged beautifully. Wasn't planning on opening it but took a flyer.

Absolutely fantastic out of the bottle. Balanced, with great funk on the nose. I couldn't get enough of this one. Really special.
