I planned to Audoze this for a few hours, but upon removing the cork and sampling, it appears a less than perfect cork, and thus the wine was far from its ideal place. Some slight oxidation, unfortunately.

Definitely on the decline but not sour like a few bottles ago. More like the last one, maybe a touch better. Like my last comments so won’t try to top that… my last fling with an old mistress (last bottle!!).

Not flAwed but peaked. Oddly a bit diluted and fading in profile, but hints of greatness marred by a death rattle of sourness. Still pleasing but less of a young new mistress and more the embers of an old flame.

12.4%. Medium red, orange red rim. Nose: dust, pencil shavings, cedar, blackberry and strawberry. Acid dominates the tannin - this bottle is a treat for acid heads. Medium length finish. Mostly primary, and the lifted fruit is still quite fragrant, the wine in this bottle is built for the long haul. Purchased from Garagiste in 2007 delivered 8/2008, stored temperature controlled since.

(DRY RED #1 Yarra Yering) More Yarra Yering Dear Friends, Another amazing deal. I could cut and paste the offer from last week (for the sibling 2001 version of this wine) as there’s not much to say - this is another would be classic example at a price that’s almost ridiculous. As one of Australia’s greatest ageing examples (with potential for 20 or more years in the cellar) this wine can go toe-to-toe with almost any Bordeaux blend from anywhere (maybe it’s not as good as 1975 La Mission Haut Brion but it can age just as long - I recently tasted Yarra Yering wines from 1977 and they were like 1995's). Yarra Yering makes two wines at this level, the Dry Red #1 (The Bordeaux blend) and Dry Red #2 (the Rhone blend). In 2002 they excelled with the Dry Red #1 as it is the flagship and statement maker of the winery. The Bordeaux varietals achieved fantastic heights in this vintage and the winery knows it (the Dry Red #2 is less convincing in 2002 as the Rhone varietals were not as successful): One perfect parcel with outstanding provenance at what should be the lowest price ever offered on this wine (anywhere in the world). VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED 2002 Yarra Yering Dry Red #1 Thank you, Jon Rimmerman Garagiste Seattle, WA Aus1610

Over the hill... undrinkable. Very sad... hope it was just this one bottle as I have a few more left to go.
