  • Decanted 30 minutes. Cork was in great condition, nice seal, and only a small amount of sediment. Mature and integrated with nice wild berry fruit sweetness, particularly wild raspberry, and dusty mature cassis. Improved with more air, gaining more fruit on the midpalate. At peak now and for the near future. Drink now-2016.

  • Garnet centre, bricking and slight brown tinge at the edge. Double decanted, open on the nose, stewed fruit cassis and leather, some cigar box. Medium bodied, refreshing, fine acidity providing a good backbone. Fruit still initially, dark red, some cassis but then more developed flavours taking over and becoming more prominent. Long finish. Really good bottle of aged cab, in a restrained style, very nice.

  • Dark purple still. Not looking old. Bouquet very reticent, muted. Some cabernet cassis, but not much. Some brett and hints of mint and fruit - hints of leather and vegetal aromas I normally associate with aged shiraz (????!). Palate silky and sexy. Lovely tannin balance. Quite high acid perhaps. Fruit-driven style, though not the normal fruit I associate with cabernet. I guess it's cassis, but much more stewed, plummy - still reminded of shiraz and grenache: I would have preferred more oaky, woody notes amongst the very clear, pure fruit. Non-fruit aspects include leathery, tarry, mentholly/eucalyptus notes rather than the expected cabernet blackcurrant-leaf-and-cedar. I guess a good wine, but not a style that really entices me, and not really convincingly. Not that I'd turn it down if offered!

  • Yarra Yering Dry Red No. 1 - The Complete Vertical 1975 to 2006 (The Ledbury, London): Cassis and chocolate on the nose, lean, earthy, and lighter than the immediately preceding wines, but lovely balance, and it went on and on and on.

  • Wonderful, rich, smooth, integrated blend. Enticing aroma and plenty of fruit on the palette. Drinking perfectly 8/00
