Another soiree and another stunning YYDR 1. This time a 78. Just sensational. Not the blockbuster dense rich decadent version like the 74 or 82 and 85 , this 78 was still medium to full bodied and power packed but far more balanced, extremely Bordeaux in smell and taste and just a ripper wine. in fact i found it more enjoyable and easier to drink than some of its closest vintage brothers and sisters which still need more time, as I believe its absolutely in its prime peak drinking window. Still with excellent color and a superb long sweet plum and cassis style palate with smooth herby tannin it will continue to hold for at least another 10 years. Which will be the time i open the 1 remaining bottle of 1978 YYDR1 in my cellar. superb!

Yarra Yering Dry Red No. 1 - The Complete Vertical 1975 to 2006 (The Ledbury, London): Big and ripe, not that expressive on the nose, but HUGE on the palate, velvet, intense blackcurrant, and with a layered quality which comes from its age
