This had more classic tobacco and dark fruit, albeit with a warmth that doesn't come across as quite Bordeaux or California. Some bloody, iodine elements with time, and it does flatten out a bit from an initially well balanced, mature profile. A solid wine, but time to drink up.

Salil does Chicago 4; 4/6/2018-4/7/2018 (Chicago, IL): This was more impressive to me early on in the evening, and it seemed to taper off towards the end of the night. This is clearly cabernet, but the notes of mint and eucalyptus definitely don't point to it being Bordeaux. Good black fruit on the nose and palate, but the palate seems to taper off a little early on, leaving a little more acid and tannin than there need to be. Elegant and classic, this is some proper Australian wine.

Yarra Yering Dry Red No. 1 - The Complete Vertical 1975 to 2006 (The Ledbury, London): Pepper and nettley fruit, quite bordeaux in style with a bit of cedar, high acid, but loads of fruit - a real beauty. This was from a magnum and so there was plenty more over dinner, where it had got smoother, more vanillin

Starting to brown around rim. Berries and cedar on nose, still showing Bordeaux notes, lovely firm tannins
