NobleRottersSydney - Yarra Pinot & Cabernet (360 Bar & Dining, Sydney): {cork, 12.5%} (Gordon) Double-decanted 3 hours earlier. Developing nose, gently sweet, with briary but still ripe and red fruit. Quite open palate, loose-knit, with a touch of bacterial/VA sweetness. Characterful and pleasant. Perhaps a bit more dilute than the typical No 1. I was half-expecting smoke taint from the bushfires which blighted the vintage, but they didn’t seem too evident here (as they were in the 2007). This is medium-bodied, with medium dusty tannins, some good balance on the tongue but finishes a bit short. Nice enough wine, a bit under par for the provenance, but certainly ready to drink. Unsurprisingly, overshadowed by the 2005 which followed.

Pop and poured. Drank over 1.5 hours. At ES with C & T. Appearance is clear, deep intensity, ruby colour. Legs. Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of grilled herbs, toasty vanilla oak, blackberries. Developing. More integrated with more air. On the palate, dry, bright high acidity, medium alcohol (12.5%), smooth high tannins, full body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of cedar, blackberries, black cherries, red plums, slight herbs. Long finish. Very good quality. Definitely Bordeaux-like with just a bit more fruitiness. Restrained at 12.5% alc only, I like! Showing much better with air - I should have decanted it. This is worth keeping and re-exploring again in another 4-5 years' time. 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Malbec, 15% Merlot & 5% Petit Verdot.

Nose seems oxidised, but still shows strong fruit notes: blackberry, dried raspberry, and a hint of horse hair. Palate shows flavours of blackberry jam, dried cranberry, horse stable, and a refreshing touch of lemon juice on the finish. Nice and complex, but seems slightly oxidised and dies quickly.

100% new french oak - warm impact
Beautiful mature nose of cigar box and subtle berries
Elegance is key word on palate; interwoven layers of restrained fruit, unobtrusive tannins
