Margaret River Tasting (Bistro Cocotte, Haberfield): Ripe, plummy but also with a tiny touch of red currant/rhubarb and a touch of jubiness. Under this slight leather and plenty of sweet spice. Equally ripe on the palate with a herbaceoues underpin, tannins are talc textured. Blind I'd go with a Yankee Merlot Cab Franc blend...

First Wednesday Wine Club (Napoli in Bocca, Haberfield): Served blind. Liquorice, plums tending to prunes, vanilla, herbaceous underpin, plenty of sweet and savoury spice, leather. In the mouth it's juicy with sweet, ripe, plummy fruit, tannins are persistent and lend a slight black tea quality. Long. I guessed mid noughties SA shiraz - classic face plant as the herbaceous notes should have pointed to it not being Shiraz from SA...bah!

Deeply coloured, black core, faintly lighter rim. Ripe blackberries, cassis, black cherry, subtle hints of earth, spice, sherbet zest. Creamy, velvety texture, fine soft tannins with a distinct but gentle acidity. Great structure. Intense cassis, soy, ink, earth, sweet warm aged oak. Still has such deep flavours and paired with such good structure, just a cracking good wine. Seems like it could age forever.

Exceptionally lean. The dominant aroma is green notes. Screams of cabernet. So lean. I felt this was 70s bordeaux or 90s aussie. From Dato Anad

At its peak, if not a bit past it; tannins are broken, although the nose is somewhat gone and fruit is flat.
