From a bottle generously provided to our tasting group by K.A., this deep garnet wine has an intense bouquet of dark plums, pipe tobacco, anise, earth and pickling spice. Medium-bodied, round, seamlessly alcoholic (12.7%) and with light residual tannins, it delivers flavors mirroring the nose. Layered in the middle and closing long, this nearly 30-year-old wine has held up beautifully. I guessed it to be a comparably aged left bank Bordeaux. Although there are no guarantees with any particular bottle of this age, collectors holding well-cellared specimens will be very pleased. Drink now-2020.

Deep garnet coloring, strong tobacco/ripe plum smell, black fruit flavors, subtle spice increasing with time. Very good.

Chicago Wine Flock..."Wines that Jim Wanted to Compare" ("Chateau La Grange" - La Grange IL): Tasted double blind. Open approx 3 hours before serving, then tasted multiple times over 2 1/2 hours. Musty to start, then rich and intense black fruit aromas emerge with lots of spice. Big and dense, very good concentration on lengthy, balanced finish.

Strawberries, cherries, a lot of minerality. Lacks some complexity. B
