This wine was on fire. Just absolutely stunning Napa Cabernet. Color was tending towards garnet, but still lots of red/purple shining through the core. The nose was beautiful; cedar, tobacco, cocoa powder, red cherries, and violets. On the palate, the tannins are fully refined/silky. Acidity is spot on. Medium body. Long, mouth watering finish. Superb and had plenty of life left. Probably the best 70s era Napa Cab we've had.

1974 California Tasting (Cafe Boulud): Very nice structure. Saturated fruit and a great nose of raspberries. Remarkable how well these 43 year olds drink. 1974 Cali Cab tasting

Back, Back in the USofA (StrEat Restaurant, Austin, Texas): Brick red/garnet in color with a pale brown rim, odors of mint, old ashtray, leather and grease. Bright acidity, soft tannins. Sweet fruit, balanced flavors, espresso-like intensity. Many tasters thought this wine was “going downhill” but for one tasting group it was the top wine in this flight.

Great, rich, ripe fruity nose, at peak, slightly over the hill, very rich licorice, cherry flavors on the palate, slightly short, medium/big finish.
