  • Last bottle from an ancient collection inherited by a friend. Wines were passively stored in an underground root cellar in western Washington state, and this bottle was actually covered with scales as if it had spent time underwater. Not outstanding but nonetheless impressively drinkable, all things considered.

  • Good fill, perfect cork saturated only 1/8 inch up.

Color: Dark purple to garnet rim. Somewhat cloudy, though, and not from being shaken up.

Nose: Port like and somewhat nutty. Nice, though, with baked red fruits and background herbal and minty hints.

Palate: Nice fruit still and flavors echo the nose but there's just too much acid! The wine tastes like the winemaker added citric acid to adjust the ph level and that never works for me. The wine tastes disjointed and out of balance. The finish is long but the sensation is like sucking on a lemon! A shame!

  • Aftere 28 years this wine was fabulous. Could not believe that it would have held up this long. Color was still dark red and after being opened for about an hour, this wine came alive.

  • Tasted at an "Older Calfornia Cabernet" class at Chicago Wine School. Release price $29. Harvested from vineyards in Yountville that border the Dominus vineyard on the south and Martha's Vineyard just north. Aged in both French and American oak. Bricking on the edges. Lots of unpleasant descriptors flew around the room on this one: sewer, cherry cough medicine, rancid, salty. This wine is way over on the "other side". At this point, it's brandy-like with a nutty pecan aspect.
