Big G sourced this direct from the domaine and it was a marvelous bottle. It had so much aniseed and licorice along with red and black fruits that had a jube-like quality. There was excellent depth in the mouth and nice stony detail. It finished with great cut and really fanned out leaving a myriad of flavours in the mouth after swallowing.

Bottle, fill and color excellent. Cork was soaked almost completely, but extracted intact. The wine is still vigorous and needs decanting, leaving a small amount grainy black sediment. Classic old Volnay, a little edge to it that was improved with air and proper food. Excellent over 3 hours

Volnay @ The Ledbury (The Ledbury, London): Blind. A lot thinner and lighter as it pours. On theme apparently. Sixties, maybe 69? Pale garnet. Beautifully smooth, caramel, soft fruit. Lacy. Captivating. Sweet fruit. Really lovely. Maybe lacks a touch of persistence but lovely. Bare *****
Bottle, fill and cork all good. This was a little subdued upon opening, but after an hour in the glass, sublime. Subtle earth, tobacco, sous bois and fruit - perfect aged burg.
