  • Good fill and cork, and demure for about 40 minutes before opening up beautifully with a bright nose of cinnamon, black plum, herbs. A beautifully balanced and supple drink if there ever was one. This came on strong over time with bright red cherry, cured meat, and sweet red berries and a plush but engaging mouthfeel. Magic in a bottle, finally peaked after 90 minutes open with no decant. Maybe about to brown on the edge of the rim, but not quite. Fully amazing bottle today.

  • An Epic Summer Wine Weekend; 7/1/2022-7/3/2022 (Muskoka, Ontario, Canada): This pours very light ruby in the glass. The nose is moderately expressive and not terribly complex showing dried red currants, chewable vitamin, cured meat, twigs, and whips of thyme. The palate is still quite youthful and vibrant. Perhaps to a fault. On entry the red fruit is concentrated and very lightly medicinal. Tannin is medium and acid is medium plus. The finish is a touch clipped. While I think everyone was a little disappointed with this showing, the bottle was pristine with a high fill, very little staining on the cork. I can't help but wonder if this is just drinking a little young.

  • {Puchased on release by member of tasting group, decanted and tasted, PopNPour} Lovely, lovely wine with mature edge, but not brown color; lots of depth of flavor and excellent length. By chance, tasting group members also brought the 2005 and 2011, and it was a toss-up between this wine and the 2005 for best wine of the night. (8 Volnay premier crus, and 1 Pommard premier cru, tried).

This bottle was wonderful. Not in any way tired. Likely in its window of maturity for ~ 20 years we estimated. No rush to drink either!

  • Setting: University Club / Clive Coates tasting
Appearance: clear, medium intensity garnet core going almost to the rim
Nose: clean, medium+ intensity, candied leather, cola, ripe fruit, creamy licorice notes, cranberry, hints of pine resin, fabulous boost from VA
Palate: dry, average+ acidity, higher alcohol, slight oak treatment with higher integrated tannin level, medium-full body with long finish, evident raspberry-fruit component with very good balance, flavour profile of peppery cola, cherry and raspberry fruits, leather and mineral notes
Comments: complex and earthy, the tannins are still drying on the palate
Clive Coates' Comments: 17.5/20, drinking window now to 2015
