Slow-ox in 2 burg glasses & btl for 3hrs prior to dinner. Served low 60s temp w/a little back & forth to the frig. Semi opaque ruby red. Floral & dark berry aromas. Excellent purity, concentration & lift! A balanced elegant mix of; dark fruit, spice, mineral & sous bois. Oak nicely integrated. Alc is a paltry 12.5%. Definitely has the tell-tale Leroy concentration & lush fruit. Feeling very smart for grabbing these at $39 on release. 2015 continues to be a very pleasing vintage for Burgundy.

Well done! Though not a Bourgogne Rouge. Having developed my Burgundy knowledge at a time when Leroy wines were eminently affordable, that signature is missing here. Without question this is an elevated wine not subject to a Bourgogne Rouge appellation. And it is not an elegant Cote de Nuits Village. The deep deep dark red/balck color immediately suggested Vosne ideas, but on the palate,it seems like a rustic Gevrey. Then it hit me: it tastes a bit like a Languedoc blend mixed with Gevrey sous bois and some Vosne elegance on top. Tons of feral scents, barnyard funk and some pettilance. almost a challenge. I liked it, but do expect a hearty wine. Drink now or wait for more expressive sinews-if the melange outlasts the forest.

Sunday lunch with the Wine-Ark boys (Porcine, Oxford Street): Pretty though concentrated red berry fruit, sweet spice, slightly funky and gamey with a touch of Brett lending liquid manure on the nose. With time a little volatility. In the mouth it has red hued fruit; raspberry, a savoury, textured burr, fresh, juicy, slightly dilute, fleshy, simple and despite the VA and other 'faults' it is balanced and pleasant
