2020 Burgundies I: Côte de Beaune from Bouchard: purplish ruby with a dark core in the glass and medium body. dark berries and plum dominate the nose, accented by spicy notes and just whiffs of rose and earth. in the mouth it has medium body that feels fuller from the fleshiness of the fruit: ripe red and dark berry flavours flow bright with acidity; herbal and spicy notes and bitterness in the tannins provide a counterweight. the finish is long, fruity, and fresh.
the wine has a concentration and intensity i don't associate with Volnays, so it's probably best not think of it as one… that said, there is a lot that needs integration with a few years in bottle for that to happen. there is upside potential here.
On the palate was dark cranberries, skin and all, dark bitter minerals, damp yet bright oak (almost comes off like tobacco), and pulverized spicy stone.
The spicy stone was a nice touch of complexity there. I remember the few Burgundy I've had before had too much of it. This had a really nice balance of it.

Many will like the velvety mouthfeel of this wine. The tannins and acidity exist but are hidden by the almost over ripe fruit. Good minerality. Everything is here and ripe! This is more Russian River Valley in nature - the warmer vintage shows.

Domaine Bouchard (K&L Wine Merchant - Redwood City): Beautiful nose of dark and subtle ripe dark red berries with dark blue fruits, purple and red flowers with gentle hay and grass.
