  • Fully mature but far from over the hill. An interesting and delicious expression of big bodied Barossa shiraz where the body and fruit have mellowed substantially, making it a more elegant wine, but at the expense of some of the power.

There is still some ripe plum there but the tertiary flavors now dominate, primarily chocolate and tar. Tannins are very silky. The finish, while not short by any means, is shorter than in the wine’s youth.

  • Supremely vibrant at 24 years old. In addition to big fresh fruit, cinnamon, cardamom, smoke. In a great place.

  • Deep garnet in the glass. Fully developed on all fronts. Some peppery spice, dried fruits & cigar box nose. Palate is soft with a short finish. No acidity or tannins. Unfortunately past its peak, but could’ve been saved if it was drunk a year earlier.

  • BBQ @ Chris and Cae's (Newton Suites): I liked this - still youthfully energetic past its 20th year, but with a nice veneer of mature Barossa Shiraz alongside. The nose opened with a nice bright burst of spice and eucalyptus notes along with sweet tones of blueberries and black cherries, perfumy violets, and then a little twist of meatiness underneath that. The dash of Viognier showed up quite prettily there. The palate had a nice polished richness to it, with velvety tannins and fresh acidity wrapped around a ripe, dark-fruited core of sunny cassis, blackberry and plum flavours, again infused with a little touch of spice and wild herb. Nice finish too, with some powdery tannins framing a long savour tail of dark plummy fruit seasoned with a touch of meat, earth, and then preserved sour plums, with just a kiss more of those puckering eucalyptus notes. Less old-school Barossa than the 2002 Grant Burge Meshach that we had alongside - this felt a bit more modern and “international” in its polished feel, but it was by no means uninteresting, or lacking in complexity. A really nice wine, approaching its peak.

  • Stiil holding up well. Dark fruit, cassis. Clean and full palate. Good grip without bitterness, good length.
