The wine is clear, with deep ruby color and thick legs. On the nose the wine is clean, with medium plus aromas of dried fruits, dried figs, hints of green herbs and spices, cooked meat. On the plates the wine is dry, with medium plus acidity, medium ripe tannins, medium plus alcohol, medium body, medium plus flavors of red fruits, plums, spices, green herbs and dried fig. The wine is of a good quality, due to its length, acidity, complexity and depth. It is expressive and enjoyable now, but feels quite close to its prime, thus might not benefit from far future aging.

I love Torbreck's style of Barossa shiraz, and this is probably my favourite in their line up (pound for pound). I liken it to an iron fist in a velvet glove. I find the tannins finer and the wine more rounded than a lot of Barossa shirazes. But make no mistake it is a big wine.
Colour: deep purple/currant. Nose: blackberry, plum, chocolate, oak, pepper and a hint of coffee tobacco. Palate: full bodied, dense and mouth filling, great texture, ripe fruit, full but smooth tannins, good balance and a long finish.
Not as good as the 2005 imo but still an excellent wine. Will be interesting to see how this is travelling in 5-8 years.

Alinea Reserve Wine Pairing February 2018 (Alinea Chicago): Served side by side with a Cote-Rotie. Wow - the two couldn't have been more different and made us question that they were actually the same grape. Paired with a dish of squab, black forbidden rice and binchotan with two small side dishes of beet and mustard and some vanilla beef jerky.
This wine really punches you with fruit - it practically explodes on your palate with ripe, dark fruit. Finish lingers nicely as well. Ultimately we preferred the Cote-Rotie with the main dish, but this paired well with the acidity and vibrancy of the beet side dish.

Huge nose, powerful and intense with aromas of black fruits, raisin and polished wood. Dense and concentrated, packed with spicy baked fruits. Layers of prune, raisin and mulberry full the palate. Held together by big grippy tannins.
