The ‘57 Ducru-Beaucaillou readily reveals mellow cassis, cooked shiitake, sandalwood, and warm ginger spice. While this is fully resolved and not in possession of the purity and delineation of the great vintages, it’s lively yet and is an undeniably delicious wine. An extraordinary surprise from an unknown claret vintage; really a testament to the great terroir of Ducru-Beaucaillou and the ability of its modest vintages to age pretty gloriously.

From an old local cellar buyout. Man these are fun to drink! Thanks Siggy! Maybe not as amazing as the stronger 55,59 & 61 vintages we've had recently but, incredible and completely worth drinking even at age 60! Amazingly alive and intriguing. I slightly preferred this over the 57 GPL.

Lonny Might Be Turning Sixty (Tilia, Mpls): Dark red color. PNP, drank a 1.75 oz pour over 45 minutes. Also from the now infamous St. Paul cellar, this too was in good shape. A bigger, darker fruited beauty than the GPL, medium plus bodied, cassis, graphite, spices, gravel, and well integrated. Firing on on cylinders and has the guts to keep going. 93+ to 94pts.

Ducru-Beaucaillou 1961 to 2004 over dinner (Hawksmoor, Spitalfields, London): Served blind, this had me guessing at '86. Earthy, dry spicy edge, savoury, very classic claret – very fine
