96-98 Punkte. Expressiv, rauchig, floral, dunkelfruchtig, sehr tief; dicht am Gaumen viel Druck, kein Gramm Fett, top strukturiert, mit Rasse, Biss und sehr schöner Länge, salin im Finish. Sehr klassisch. (En Primeur Tasting April 2024, 13.5 Alkohol)

This has only just recently finished its maceration and it’s certainly an early assemblage but my goodness, this blurry snapshot of 2023 Ducru-Beaucaillou is delicious and characterful. The nose is full of focused, deep, polished boysenberry and Christmas spice, offering a very appealing suggestion of what’s ahead. There’s beautiful balance in the mouth and tannins that are very sophisticated indeed; admittedly I’m accustomed to tasting young wines, but this is all pleasure and no work. There’s a level of purity and polish that are just so Ducru. I look forward to re-tasting this at en primeur when it’s in its final form, but tasting it at this early juncture is a very special privilege for what I'm grateful.
