A friend brought this over. Pristine bottle. This Ducru was brilliant, drinking a lot younger. It was earthy and fresh at the same time and a lot of fruit left. As the night progressed graphite and pencil shavings emerged. A great example of mature Bordeaux

Impressive. Elegant, red fruit, leather and earth. Long finish. Excellent purity and complexity for such a such a mature wine. Still alive and kicking, and a great choice for those that appreciate the charm of mature bordeaux.

Pristine condition bottle with high fill. Beautiful old world Bordeaux notes on the nose and palate. Many years of life left in these bottles. Joy for everyone around the table today. Cellar Masters Bordeaux day.

It seems like the tannins from the hot summer of 1975 have finally settled down because this example of the vintage from Château Ducru-Beaucaillou was brilliant on the night, drinking a decade younger than its age would suggest after slow oxidising the bottle for half an hour prior to enjoying. The nose was extremely aromatic, with eucalyptus and menthol standing out straight way before hints of blackcurrant, vanilla, cedar wood, graphite and tobacco emerged. The palate was packed with fruit as the upfront brought in bright black cherries alongside raspberries and a touch of vanilla before the mid-palate introduced tertiary elements of forest floor, oak, cassis and a hint of menthol. The fruit resurrected itself over a sharp finish as a hint of blackcurrant emerged over the course of the bottle. It’s truly a delight to get such a stunner from an often-debated vintage and even more exciting to say that there’s definitely some life left for the 1975 Château Ducru-Beaucaillou.
