Community Tasting Notes (1) Avg Score: 90 points

  • Opened a few hours before tasting and left in the bottle under a new cork. Original cork was in good shape. Wine also surprisingly good. It gained weight and even colour during the tasting. Subdued aroma's of ripe black fruit, still serious acidity, but well integrated, no tannins left to speak of, good St. Julien character (lead pencil, minerals). Gift from a friend's father cellar; the wine was kept in the same cellar and only moved twice during its live (three times if you count the move to my cellar - where it rested standing upside for about 6 months before tasting). The 90 pts is for its actual taste; if you take into account its age it deserves two to three extra points for 'stamina' ;) On the label: "Chateau Saint Pierre Sevaistre - Saint Julien Beychevelle - Grand cru classé - MM Van den Bussche Prpre (= Propriètaire?) - Médoc - Appellation Saint Julien controlée
