Coravin fun - Bordeaux (My place, Burwood): From Coravin. A little cellar stink, graphite, pencil shavings, herbaceous, muted brambles fruit, leather, cedar, touch of porcini, red currant, sous bois. Juicy tends to medium plus intensity acidity, cranberry, slightly sharp red fruit, tangy, tannins resolved; whisper of texture, leather, drink up.

This 85’ Pauillac has held up well. Medium red with a tawny hue. Herb and cassis bouquet. This mature, solid Bordeaux has a classic style. Still showing fresh fruit though I suspect this wine peaked 5-8 years ago. Nice long aftertaste. Drink up.

Coravin fun - Leoville Barton & new arrivals (My place, Kent Street): From Coravin. Signs of bleeding cork but level good. Aromas of earth, black tea, leather, a little aniseed, smoked meat, the tiniest amount of red currant. With time the fruit grows and ripens and is joined by sweet spice. Slightly sour, fruit but not massively volatile, plenty of grippy tannins are talc textured and leathery, spice, meaty notes on the long finish. Nice but drink up.
And I did drink up about a week later - with rack of lamb. The wine performed as per above but after about three hours it did begin to fall apart a bit.

A vertical tasting of Château Duhart-Milon 1975-2012 (Restaurant Vineum, Rotterdam, NL): Lovely nose, classic mature left bank profile, hints of cedar and spice, good depth; gentle and flowing palate, retains some ripe fruit, firm but velvety tannins, ripe but fresh acidity; good resonance and length. At peak.
