  • 40 year old wine from a vintage the chateaux don't even talk about. Quite advanced but not without it's pleasures. Overall quite thin and watery, but some notes of pencil shavings, dried black currant, leather, earthy forest floor.

  • Bordecembre no. 36... I think this is my first ever 1984. Turns out its a vintage which was wet and cool, with Cyclone Hortense too!

Circa 2/3rds Cab, with 1/3 Merlot. Red fruit nose and palate, but quite soft. Vanilla and oak on mid palate, not the best integration.

Acidity M-, and the Med long finish still holding strong. Tannins fully resolved with slightly thin mouthfeel

Thanks to brother DL for spoiling us all at Js birthday party and early NY eve celebration in KL with not one.. but two 1980 beauties!

  • Didn't know quite what to expect given the vintage. PNP from a Coravin, which ultimately proved to be not the approach to take. The initial nose and sip makes you take a step back and wonder. But, all this wine was asking for was a little aeration. The long she spent in the glass, the more she improved. After more than 35 years, the tannins are still intact and the fruit still alive. Primarily dark fruit with some forest floor and mocha. Surprisingly, it's not overloaded with the earthiness that one might expect of a wine this age. I blinded a friend who guessed 15 years. A minimal but growing finish. Overall, a pleasure.

  • Being a big winelover with the birthyear 1984 is in general kind of frustrating. The vintage was, despite a few spots in the world like Napa Valley, very disappointing. That being said, this ‘84 Duhart-Milon really suprised me with those typical Pauillac characteristics. Still lively tannins & accidity, black currant, ripe blackberries, chocolate, forrest-floor and tabaccco 👌🏻

  • A vertical tasting of Château Duhart-Milon 1975-2012 (Restaurant Vineum, Rotterdam, NL): A year with an abysmal reputation, but this is still crisp and lively in a light and modest way, herbaceous, clearly lots of Cabernet, slender style but without any clear signs of decay.
