  • What a classical, delightful Pessac the 64 Haut Bailly is - open and immediately charming from the first pour with a red and black cherry filled bouquet, full of pipe smoke, chestnut, Assam, and warm earth. The tannins are so fine. A lovely drink.

  • Elegant, refined, and silky, the wine is fresh and vibrant. Filled with sweet red fruits, flowers, tobacco leaf, and spice, perhaps there is not much weight or density, but the wine more than makes up for it with its purity and finesse. Fully-mature, no decanted is needed here. But this is not a wine to age for further development. Drink from 2022-2028.

  • Bouche encore debout mais l'ensemble est vraiment très fatigué pour qu'on le boive avec plaisir (surtout en comparaison du Magdelaine 64 bu récemment). Aucun changement sur la 1/2 journée de suivi.

    Dommage, dommage...

  • Amazingly vivid garnet color. Mid-shoulder fill. The expected tertiary notes of leather, cedar, tobacco, but still a glimmer of fruit lurking behind. A senior citizen for sure, but a healthy and elegant one. It survived 56 years of careless storage (the first 46 in the basement of a kindly widow, the next 10 were my fault). Glad I opened this for a special birthday.

  • Purchased a few pristine bottles, with great fills out of a mint case for a song, local Bay Area retailer a couple of years ago. Cork was still fragile but solid. Color still youthful enough. Good nose, immediately I knew this wine was still quite fresh. Low and behold the fruit was quite vibrant as well. Apparently, unlike the many of the First Growths and Left Bank, Right Bank and Graves were not effected as much by the rain. This is highly pleasurable wine. Actually become better with about 45 min of air, perhaps peaked at hour two, did not get better, but certainly in a nice spot. Hard to gauge how much longer this can hold. Showed fresher fruit than some wines I had experienced from the 1980s. Super.
