  • Past its prime. But fun to drink all the aged cherry, tobacco and leather notes that developed!

I’d prefer mine maybe 6-8 years younger. With tannins and somewhat fresher fruit.

  • Horrible. Russet brown color. Sour and thin. Suspect flawed.

  • With roast chicken, from memory. P&P. Big earthy cherries on the nose initially, then tightened up considerably over the next 2 hours. Similar story on the palate, nice typicity and plenty of tannin & acidity in support. Young for my taste, no rush to drink.

  • The 2008 Valdicava Rosso di Montalcino lives up to the hype of its name. I purchased both a Valdicava Rosso and a Valdicava Brunello (the latter a 2006 vintage) for comparison. Since the Brunello clocks in at 2.5 times the price, I figured it was worth it to try the Rosso to see if it would be a suitable alternative to the Brunello in future purchases. While I am quite pleased with the Rosso, I am not able to give an direct comparison to the Brunello at this time, as I have to open the latter. Wine Spectator gives the 2008 Validicava Rosso di Montalcino a solid rating of 90, which aligns to the current CellarTracker community rating of 89. I agree with the CT rating and I look forward to tasting the Rosso's more esteemed cousin, the Brunello. At this point, I suspect both entrants from Valdicava to make a reappearance in my cellar in the future.

  • Quite good. I opened and let it sit for 90 minutes. This really allowed the wine to soften up. Should have probably decanted it. Mixture of dark and red fruit combined with some earth and spice. Wonderful bottle of wine.
