This one didn’t need a decant in my opinion. I’ve opened some brunellos this vintage that have, and had an ‘06 that completely transformed for the better with a decant. This one’s ready to go. Tannins had smoothed out in this bottle. Hints of clove, leather in the back behind the dark cherry you’d expect in the front in a B.

The 2010 Il Poggione has consistently improved every year starting 2021. Now, in 2024, it has really opened up and balanced, and it's wonderful. In contrast to earlier years, when it was overly astringent, now it is well integrated and a real treat. Hard to put it down!
Il Poggione Brunello Di Montalcino 2010 Nose of dusty black fruit with some dark chocolate, dusty tannins and some mint and spice. On the palate, lots of sour black cherries, mint, good elegance, chocolate, cocoa and clove. Elegant. 92/100

(Il Poggione (Proprietá Franceschi) Brunello di Montalcino) Medium dark red violet color; floral, raspberry, tart cherry, sandalwood, clove nose; tasty, velvety, rounded, ripe cherry, tart raspberry puree palate with near medium acidity; approachable now but could use 6-plus years; long finish (14.5% alcohol)
