  • Stunning.. loved this Margaux appelation 2nd growth wine, from what is a defining vintage for the appelation.. 1983!

Circa 50% Cab, 45% Merlot and 5% PV with 18 months oak aging.

Classic Bordeaux claret nose, amazing that the red fruit is still present at 40 years. Well integrated rounded vanilla and oak on mid palate.

Med length finish still holding strong, perfectly resolved tannins. Silky mouthfeel!

On my 2nd glass.. with some air.. Light minerality on the finish, with forest floor and earthy tertiaries developing.

The red flower and red fruit Margaux nose held throughout the two glasses I enjoyed, what a treat. Beautiful.. Best Lascombes to date!

Bordecembre... this is no. 37, yes Bordeaux number 37 this month!! A joy to enjoy, and I was afraid it may fall apart.. but it stood strong for over 1 hour. Simply opened with a wine pump air needle, the cork was 80% saturated but still in great condition.

Yes, this may not be a Palmer nor a Margaux.. but the quality and finesse of this appellation shined through in this Lascombes 1983 for sure.

Thanks brother DL who generously shared this with us at the Crazy Gang early NY eve party, in KL's "If Only"... 40 years old Bordeaux, amazing!

  • Late Dec 2022: high fill bottle; cork crumbled upon opening; decanted and immediately served; deep brown red color; intense bouquet of cassis, cherries and blue berries plus light minty notes; well-balanced with a fruity, juicy acidity on the palate; in the cheeks some mellow tannic leftovers; medium/long finish.

Great mature Lascombes 1983. Bottle number: 85997.

  • Our friends Anne and Mike came over for an impromptu dinner and Mike had a '96 Lascombes, so I thought it would be nice to pull out an '83 for comparison. Both wines were quite nice, though the '96 was initially showing a bit more vanilla oak that obscured some of the underlying fruit. This became a bit more subdued with air, allowing the pretty Margaux floral and red fruit notes. The '83 was popped-and-poured and really singing right out of the gates. It had a fill into the neck and pristine cork, so even though the importer tags indicate it came through Mexico, it seems to have been well stored. As good as the last bottle of '83 Lascombes was (last year), this was even better. Tertiary notes of forest floor, sandalwood and minerals mix with the lively violet, raspberry and plum flavors, with a long, silky finish. This is one of the better auction purchases I've made at $45 all in.

  • Monthly Tasting Group: Aged Bordeaux & Napa (Baldamar, Roeville, MN): Dark red color, 6mm transitional edge. PNP, drank a glass over two hours. Love this with it's wonderfully funkiness, dark raspberry, purple flowers, pencil and spice notes. The palate is well integrated and displays that elegance and maturity that I love; medium full bodied, satiny in texture with pretty raspberry and cherry fruit, saddle leather, gravel, wood spices and penciil shavings on a long, sleek finish. Thanks Candie for having a great birth year.

  • Candace's btl at Baldamar. Candace, thanks for the nice string of 83s you've been bringing! Tonight's was fantastic! So elegant, resolved with a plethora of tertiary notes. Weightless & ethereal. Classic Margaux all the way! Loved it!
