Hyde de Villaine (HdV) is an inspired venture between two families, Burgundian de Villaine family (owners of DRC) and the Hyde family of Carneros region. Aged for 15 months in FR oak, 20% new. Medium golden colour. Expressive rich aroma of ripe yellow melons, cinnamon, peaches, apple pie, hint of smoky toasted oak. Full body, complex, broad and savoury with creamy texture, tangy medium+ acidity. Rich, perfumed and powerful, but not over overpowering, well structured vibrant acidity is the key here.

Very, very good. PnP the wine has a similar profile to a Pearl Diver or Painkiller. Orange, pineapple, and lemon. There is some crushed rock, or shellfish in there as well. Beautiful nose. Some tannins as well. As the wine gets air, the fruit leaves and the oak gets more dominant - not in a good way.
With about 2 hours of air, this takes a more creamy and complex, without being ‘buttery’.
Paired perfectly with fish and chips.

One of the surest things in California Chardonnay, this is yet another spectacular bottle of wine. Outstanding density and intensity, very perfumed nose, and so, so juicy - the acid is beautiful. Oak (some new, but judiciously handled) seamlessly integrated, remarkable purity of fruit, no rough edges, and no excessive heat. This wine is both exuberant and calmly powerful. 13.8%, $70.

Just an exceptional chardonnay with slight oak and great depth. Perfectly balanced.

Friends of Musique et Vin Gala (French Club, San Francisco): A wonderful mix of Old and New World. Discrete wood balanced by bright citrus and lively acidity. Just behind the Bonneau du Martray Corton Charlemagne in this flight for me.
