Last Tuesday Supper Club (One Penny Red, Summer Hill): Herbaceous, cream, vanilla, jubey blackberry and blackcurrant, plenty of sweet oak spice. Juicy, polished, that herbaceous note is making itself known, the fruit slightly more red hued on the palate, tannins are drying and floury textured. Still showing quite young. Nice but not really my thing.

Benefited from some decanting, though it was clearly good from the get go. It was as if these aromas were just dying to escape from the bottle. Absolutely gorgeous. Intense tobacco, tar, violets, cherries, mint, prunes, bay leaf... The palate is in the right spot now, with integrated tannins and singing length. Will probably be good for some time to come, but it's unlikely to get better I think.

Good colour, restrained nose. At first a lovely soft expression of Cabernet with ripe fruits and nice middle palate without great complexity but after an hour in decanter opens into a really lovely wine with good finish and nice soft acids and tannins. At its best now, one of the best oz Cabernets have tasted, very subtle, not a fruit bomb but very good. Highly recommend.

Giaconda Vertical (Sydney, Australia): A nose of restrained blackcurrant, smoky notes along with a slightly funky undergrowth element to it. The palate is elegant and at the same time complex, with tingling, teasing flavours across the length of the wine. Classy texture with well integrated tannins providing backing and structure. Very enjoyable and my favourite Cabernet from this tasting.
