  • This is seriously good Brunello that has aged into a complex, joyous peak. So much power, yet refined and seamless. So many layers of fruit and earthen spice. Long crescendoing finish.

  • Sangiovese night (Chicago, IL): Probably the best of the three bottles of this I bought -- this is classic Cerbaiona with just that slight bit of volatility that accents the wine rather than dominates it. Dark fruited, leathery, and very backwards and rustic, with that dark, brick oven smell. Intense yet coarse, this is a really compelling bottle that is very distinctive. That style is very much to my liking though.

  • 2013 Barolo tasting at 67PM: I guess old Italians are always a crapshoot but my second bad experience with one at 67PM after the 2001 Giacosa last year which bore some similarities to this. Was hesitant to order this and unfortunately my suspicion was proven right. Had a distinct prune note on the nose that dissipated slightly with air as the classic Cerbaiona VA emerged, but the palate was devoid of structure and was dominated by plummy flavours and resolved tannins. Not sure where 67PM in Singapore source their old Italians from but would suggest to avoid.

  • More Wine, Less Delta (Osteria Langhe): A wow bottle of Sangiovese -- so youthfully rich and concentrated, with a depth of flavor spice and herbal complements to the cherry and raspberry fruit. Plenty of structure to match the richness. Seems this has yet to enter a peak drinking window, but its awfully fun and enjoyable now, with upside from here.

  • Dinner at Osteria Langhe (Chicago, IL): This bottle was far better than my last one; I'm glad that indeed the previous bottle was just off. Very dark complexioned, with just a little hint of VA that isn't too distracting. For my palate, I would have wished the fruit showed a little less stewy/old and fresher. It's possible that I got to these a few years too late as far as the fruit is concerned, but this is still quite brooding and tannic on the finish.
