  • Fresher and juicier than the 1999, but I preferred the 1999

  • Once again I am pleasantly surprised by how well the 2000's from top traditional producers show now. It is restrained in the red and black cherry fruit and balanced with an acid backbone. It also had lovely medium-bodied mouthfeel and a reasonably long finish in the mouth, probably close to a minute, but I don't time these things. I think it has plenty of time, but was perfect for me right now.

  • A deep and perfumed nose with dark strawberry fruit, florals, and a sense of stoniness. On the palate, structured yet graceful, with good sap and drinking with a sense of ease. A mid weighted wine with hidden power, great balance and a sense of harmony. The tannins are for the most part resolved, and everything is coming together very well. Nothing really stands out here, but everything come together into a cohesive whole. Power and grace. An effortlessly lovely wine drinking at peak. Sadly my last bottle. 92

  • Pleasant out of the bottle if a bit lightweight, with a shrill, green note on the nose. I wasn't concerned, and indeed this fleshed out nicely with 30 minutes or so of air. Beautiful, maturing nose of fresh sour cherry, leather, truffle, rose petal. A touch of brett, but it's just enough to add some seasoning. Medium bodied with luscious sweet-tart, rich cherry, strawberry, rusty nail, earth and gorgeously integrated acidity. A little savory. This tightened up a little after a few hours, but the tannins are surprisingly tame here and I'm kind of blown away at how mature this is -- much further along than recent traditional '95 and '98 Brunello i've tasted, although not from this producer. If this bottle is representative, i'd recommend starting to enjoy these now, and over the next 5-6 years.

  • Dark grenadine. Complex, exotic nose is dominated by rich sweet fruits, crushed rose petals, hints of tobacco. Long and sweet in the mouth with red fruit flavors: dried griotte cherries, raspberries, red currents. Perfectly balanced with the stuffing to age. A superb brunello.
