SangioFest, Volume III "It's my favourite spot" (Chicago, IL): Mature, and readily drinkable and approachable Krug. For my palate, this is in a really sweet spot, where there's just enough maturity to render this wine far more expressive. Given that this was before the Cavil transition, there's more of an outright opulence here that modern Krug doesn't quite have. Still plenty of white fruit here, but I love the intense, chewy mineral profile that this has.

Out of magnum, consistently smashing showing, out of 750, about 50% hit rate. Beware of buying a 750 off list - a bottle i had was not flawed enough to send back but hollow enough to give displeasure.

10 years after Riesling tasting - 2014 (Restaurant Brunnenstube, Beinstein): Glass: Gabriel Universal Not as fresh and racy as my last bottle, but nevertheless a beautiful Krug! Nose with fine brioche and caramel, deep and dense. On the palate classic fine and long mousseux, nice tension, classic elegance, long! Danke Robert!!!

At Home Dinner. This was a deliciously mature wine with a developed straw colour and a fresh complex nose of white peach, Nashi pear, white cherries, wild strawberries, honey and nougat. The palate is quite rich with fruit and nougat flavours leading into a developed line of caramel and honeyed cashew flavours. There was still plenty of grip and minerality providing great length to this beautiful Champagne.

[Magnum] Brilliant. Superior to a magnum of 2002 a week ago. Completely fresh and bright, wonderful toast. Complete, harmonious, open knit. Delicious, crunchy orchard fruit and citrus spritz.

Third bottle from a case. Conistent notes. Good rather than great. While it dispalys the signature Krug richness, it lacks the elegance one expects from vintage Krug, perhaps becasue 2000 was such a hot year.

This was brilliant and showing extremely well. Classic Krug notes, biscuits and nutty nose with fresh apple and citrus on the palate. Doesn’t have the structure and firmness of the 95/96/98 etc, but is elegant, classy and rich all at once. Well balanced and in a great spot for drinking right now.

I think I was expecting more, but certainly liked it. Maybe it was the lack of freshness that hit me. Lemon and apple on the palate with an effervescence that disappeared quickly.

Pardon the brevity, I don't drink enough champagne!
Single blind but bottles pulled at random.
Apple soda, grapefruit, popcorn and sudachi. Lush and ripe on the palate with a rounded mouthfeel. I do not drink champagne often enough but I know this tasted excellent!

Krug-vertical (blinded) session. This was served (2nd-wine) in the 2nd-flight (of 3) amongst the '02 & '88 (Collection). Compared to the 1st-flight, these 3 wines had much more uniformity across. However, amongst the 3, this felt that it came from a riper vintage, with some "roundness" (plushness) texturally. Ripe apples, lemons, chalk with just enough freshness to carry the finish through. Had thought this was the '03...

Liz's B-Day Dinner at Singapore Swimming Club - Krug Vintage Vertical (Singapore Swimming Club): Krug Vintage vertical spanning Collection 1988/1996/1998/2000/2002/2003/2004/2006. Blind tasting. Both this and the 2002 were overshadowed by following the first flight which feature wines having aged and outgrown their shell to display great singularity. The 2000 is very fine drink not showing outright youthful but rather discreet and therefore warranting a few more years of aging

Commanderie de Bordeaux MN: First Growths at Demi (Demi, Mpls): Light gold color. Drank a glass from magnum over 45 minutes. This was amazing tonight, it just totally pops out of the glass and on the palate - wow!. Apple, apricot, saline, beeswax, with the palate showing more lemon, lemon peel, and pear; lovely and precise, stones and saline. Super bottle, getting a little mag bump too. Thanks Brad! 96+ to 97pts.

BYOK with Olivier Krug at Next (Chicago, IL): Another one of the vintages of this era that I neglected to backfill (I guess my Krug obsession didn't really start in earnest until around the 2004 or 2002 release). But at least this one should still be relatively obtainable. This is drinking very nicely right now; it's not as stern and structural as the 1995, but there's a very pleasant plushness to the fruit that helps buffer all those structural elements. Distinct note of pastry cream on the nose too. I don't think this has the stuffing to be a legendary Krug, but for getting a mix of freshness and maturity, this is the ticket right now.

Mid gold appearance. Tons of tiny bubbles apparent on pouring.
Distinctly toasty nose (toasted fresh bread), sort of cereals and grains too, super fresh with some neatly defined lemon citrus (comments of preserved lemon among the group), I kept getting an almost tangerine note… a roquefort canape brought out more toast in the wine.
Voluminous but weightless attack, powder-light, open and lacy. Lots of chalk, very clean cut and crisp, very fine and stony. Still plenty tense and young but it really dances. Tried to take our time to let it open up but it was hard to resist!

March Madness Wine Tasting: Unblinded Intermezzo Flight - '00 vs. '02 Krug The '00 is much more approachable, rich, mature, round and opulent The '02 has higher acidity, spot on in every sense, and laser focused Bottom line... drink the '00 now and hold the '02 and let it age.

Krug 2000. Ahhh… dette er den største storsjarmøren av dem alle. Perfekt modning hvor frukten er i behold, samtidig som vi beveger oss med det sekundære. Søtbakst, parfyme og spice hånd i hånd. Dette også drikker helt nydelig. Midt i smørøyet faktisk. 96p+

Krug Tasting (Memories Bad Ragaz): Krug tasting hosted by a merchant and collector. Main takeaways: 1/ Clos du Mesnil and the 1996 back vintage were show-stoppers, 2/ 164 was in a different league of the Grande Cuvée line-up, 3/ a general feature and maybe signature for Krug for me was the fine integration of autolytic notes into a balance of fruit and mineral notes. The textures tend to be soft with just a splash of cream and structures built around acidity. 4/ Clos du Mesnil towers over the vintage and GCs in terms of precision, complexity and elegance.
Tasting note: Late release. Cépages 43% PN, 42% Ch, 15% PM. 14 years on lees, degorged Q1 2015. Unfortunately this was corked, hard to make any comments.

200 Burgundy Grand Crus from vintage 2000, 4-day blind tasting (Singapore): Aperitiv wine. From MAG. This felt more like a BdB Champagne today with lots of lemon elements and a discrete buttery elements. Very elegant, very precise, lemon oil, quite lean and tight. Big Bottle Lunch: 2 years on from last note. This bottle was from a different cellar. This example more oxidative, sherry note and 'brassiness'. I think not a great example. Cellaring conditions are critical with champagne of this age as is the cork.

Wow, what an interesting bubbly. Probably not a well stored bottle (though the cork looked good), the bouquet is all fino sherry at first with loads of VA, caraway and rye seed, oxidative to the max. The palate is bone dry but has a dazzlingly creamy mouthfeel and epic length. Shows better with food. Not really how I prefer my champagne this was still super interesting and intense.

Of course the typical Krug toasty foamy mineral acid backbone. But so much more on top of it. Very ripe candy-like cherry. Over the top movie theater butter. Salty briny like million year old sea creatures.
From the direct from Krug 2021 release. Fully open and uncoiled but hasn’t yet developed mushroom or sherry aged character. To my palette, perfect development.

Revisiting the 2000 Krug. This early maturing Krug is fully matured and is drinking at its peak, it should stay like this for another decade. Rich and fierce array of ripe tropical fruits, apricot, butterscotch, and a touch of straw. Quite upfront and powerful, though it lacks certain refinement and complexity of 1998 or 2002. (91/100)

My last bottle of this one, pnp, needs at least an hour to warm up a bit and come together, very chalky nose, full of fresh citrus fruit and some white peach, some caramel slightly, spice, great fresh mouthfeel, very balanced and limy, citrus, green apples, but this is a real mouthful of a sparkler, still firm and creamy, with a finesse like long+ finish, for me this vintage of Krug due to this bottle is in its very prime, so would recommend to just pnp and enjoy! ****, Around 92- 94

Very good, but to be frank I thought this was not up to Krug standard. Very balanced and refined, but severely suffered from comparison with the 02 Cristal served next to this. Overall a delicious champagne, just not great and not a great value.
The blend is 43% Chardonnay, 42% Pinot Noir and 15% Pinot Meunier, DG 6/2013...This is still drinking BRILLIANTLY! Been very happy with the bottles I've had from this purchase...still bright and energized with zippy lemon tarts and ginger miso...crisp with tingly elegant effervescence...chalky and savory minerality...age has brought out some very nice nuanced white mushroom, figs/nuts drizzled with honey, leesy brioche, shaved white truffle. Pillow soft airy vanilla/brown butter mousse...very creamy, good length...more on the subtle side, not a powerhouse, but everything is in the right place. Getting to that classic Krug richness and depth, while still holding on to the youthful freshness...such a beautiful wine!!

Pale gold. Nose of ripe apple, caramel, toasted almond, lemon curd, baking spice, and vanilla. Fine mousse, tart acidity, and medium body. This is great, elegant, and fresh. However, I will be holding my last bottle for another 5-10 years to allow for more richness to develop.

Krug 2000 is a superb champagne - in it's own right but in particular in light of the vintage. Quite dry and nutty, getting better with some air today indicating that this should have a long shelf life like most Krug does. Would be very interesting to revisit with another decade of bottle age but this is definitely nicely drinking now.

Annual gathering with Chicago winos in Chicago (Smyth and The Loyalist - Chicago IL): Medium expressive nose displaying ripe yellow fruit, cinnamon apple, lemon crud, marzipan and limestone. Tasted after the 2008 Dom Perignon. Such a contrast in styles. The Dom all coiled latent power with vanilla, spices and depth and the Krug with no ullage from an impeccable cellar was amazingly fresh tasting with tertiary flavour profile (like cumquots/herb garden and something indescribable). fuller bodied and with a very long finish. To me just a step outside of the typical profile of mature vintage champagne but no worse the wear for being individual. Can't see this falling over any time soon. Probably prefer the Dom as the '08 shows signs of being a truly great vinatge.

WOTN

Purchased two bottles of these by auction this year, so pnp the first one, Krug-ID: 210010, 43% PN, 42% Chard.,15% PM, initially very citrus driven nose, we two both pour in two different glasses to search for differences, the first a Riedel Sommelier Champagne flute, the second the Gabriel glas, more balance in the flute at first, the nose full of citrus zest and quince, nuts the palate some warm dark German Schwarzbrot, hazelnuts, and as a backbone limy spice, needs the aeration to get structured in both glasses, after one hour it reveals a delicate, deep finesse-like Champagne to chew on, do not have that much Krug in my glasses, but I do have to commit, Krug never fails, after at least two hours there is no significant difference in using two various glasses, this vintage of Krug for me is with upside still, so if you open one, give this a decent decant or hold it for a decade+ more, very convincing bottle, this is one of the rare euphoriant ones! ****(*), 94-96(+) potential

I haven’t had this wine since September of 2016. The 2000 vintage is as beautiful as I remember it. Unlike the bottle years ago, this was a much more austere on opening which gave me a little pause for concern. However after ninety minutes the wine was a good and ever better than I remembered. Gorgeous notes of brioche, yeast, and even faintly bbq meats on the nose. I could just sit with my nose in the glass all night. Truly one of my favorites all time. The wine is fulll of energy and is crisp and bright on the pallete. Purlage is strong for even a young champagne yet alone a twenty year old bottle. This has legs for a long time to come. I have a few bottles left and look forward to sampling again in a few years.
took a really long time to show more depth but even after 3 hours it seemed monotoned. hints of citrus and orchard fruits ( apple and slightly pear). might be a time period but wasn't my sense. 92

This is in a great spot. Just enough development to really enjoy the complexity. Classic Krug, full bodied and masculine, fine bead that comes across as a creamy texture, great acidity which keeps it fresh. Honeyed biscuit, baked apple tart, expansive mid palate with good persistence and length. For me the 2000 is ready to go now. Still has time but probably best in the next 5 years or so.

Ljusgul färg med fin mousse och små bubblor. Doftar lite citrus, lite oxiderade toner, men väldigt frisk. Liljekonvalj och vårblommor Extrem stor och rund i munnen med härlig syra och röda äpplen. From magnum. Whoa! This is the best Krug I've had in a good long while. I was worried that it would be too sherried but it was just the opposite, extremely fresh and lively. Notes of herbal tea like chamomile and toast with base notes of ripe plum skin. What really grabs is the sense of mouth watering acidity and freshness. I'm probably still more of a "grower" Champagne person at this point, but this was very, very good.

A good showing but not really meeting the (high) expectations. Starting very tight but opening up after 40 min in the glass with notes of mushrooms, gunpowder citrus. Never really bloomed fully though and I think I'd actually prefer a GC to this particular bottle.
Zoom tasting with Oliver Krug. This has fattened up and begun to show some some classic Krug oxy qualities. Good depth and fine tiny bubbles. Has become more complex and oily in texture. Lovely place, but gone is the sharp incense lean citrus edge and now more complex and nuanced and begs to be sipped versus quickly draining.

In the pantheon of great vintage Krug, this vintage is not one of them. It’s small in scale, modestly endowed. Pale at first, with air it turns light gold. Bubbles are slightly larger than usual, mousse is modestly persistent. Slightly oxidative. Strong acidity but somehow not fresh. Medium weight. Okay for champagne, unexciting for Krug.

Gylden gul. Moden nese med ok kompleksitet. Hasselnøtter, iberico bellota, sopp, sjø, kalk, gule og melne epler, grønne epler, snev av bakst. Heftig vin i munn. Stor og intens, moden frukt, vibrerende syre. Karamelliserte hasselnøtter, sjø, salt. Delikat mousse.

Grands-Echézeaux Dinner (Summer Pavilion, Ritz Carlton, Singapore): Very solid, but just a touch more oxidative than I thought it would be at this stage of its development. This was clear from the nose, which had typical Krug notes of red apples yeast and bread, along with sweet honey and caramel aromas, but all this edged with some browned fruits and an oxidative, rather savoury rancio character. The palate was really full and generous, with a muscular seam of powerful flavours filling the mouth - sweet red apples and ripe lemons, yeast and some cream, a dollop of honey, and then touches of spice and mineral pulling away into a long powerful finish. The mousse had tamed into a soft robe, and the oxidative notes were in there somewhere as well, showing in a bit of browned pear notes. Overall very good and still solid, but this was really drinking as though it was leaving its peak window behind.

Very impressive nose with both sweet apple and freshly baked bread. Lovely red apple flavors and with a lot of backbone. Plenty of acidity and even has a slight lime note in the aftertaste. Lots of hazelnut, richness and a touch f butter. The wine has lots of depth but still maintaining freshness and balance. Amazing wine!
Excellent! Notes of apricot, honey, orchard, brioche, some oxidation, coffee beans, hazelnut. Ripeness and sweetness provide deep, rich, and complex aromatic character. Similar aromas with refreshing acidity that gives structure and support and thus preventing sticky sweetness. Extremely refined beads. You do not get tired of it. Finally, extremely long, it goes on and on and on again. Worth the price! Note. Krug fans will not be disappointed. That said, we tasted RD2002 next and several preferred the "Bollinger" style for better balance between complexity and freshness.

Sunday afternoon wines (Chicago, IL): 113014. Biscuity and rich, with more of a brioche thing on the nose. Some browning apple, and a bit of an oxidative bent. With air, the brown tones seemed to grow in volume, but it's not like this was a fading wine. There was a really nice toffee note on the finish as well. What can I say, Krug is Krug.

Kelvin T's 40th Birthday (Imperial Treasure Teochew, Tanjong Pagar): Drinking beautifully - this is probably the best of the 4 bottles I have had since release. This had a lovely nose too, with wafts of brioche and browned butter, caramel and spice, a touch of earth and white meat, then sweet, ripe apples and gentle florals. Lovely. The palate was great too, with a wonderful clarity and focus to its strong, powerful flavours of red apples, earth, mineral and spice, all tossed together with a lovely flow of brioche, honey and a gentle nuttiness as the wine stretched out into a long, powerful finish. There was still a good bit of juicy acidity and a fine mousse, making a nice shape in the mouth. Focused, powerful and compelling, the 2000 Krug is really coming into its own now.

Nebbiolos, white truffles, Volume IV (Chicago, IL): 411050. Very lovely nose, with plenty of sweet apples and just a slight bit of breadiness. Like a recent bottle of Grande Cuvee, this seems to have all the oxidative notes, but none of the yeasty dirtiness. There's a little more citric acidity here than I remember there being the last time I had this, but that may well have been a bit of palate fatigue bringing that out to the forefront. In any case, this was a textbook showing.

Still one of my favourite producers in vintage 2000. Powerful on the nose with roasted nuts, ripe lemony fruits and red apple, not too expressive but focus and powerful. Very intense and complex on the palate, quite powerful but with the 2000 vintage softness. Elegant and very Long lingering salinity and acidity. Very nice juiciness, pair superbly well with the TC style pork neck. Touch of lime Zest bitterness at the back too.
Incredible lively, the acidity and seductive fruits is to die for. Great balance between elegant and power.

2000 Krug is drinking superbly today, much the same as most 2000 Champagnes, which are expressive and showing the muscular fruits and lower acidity of this vintage, but 2000 is not a vintage that offers much focus nor precision. The 2000 Krug offers good intensity with muscular Pinot fruits (45% Pinot Noir & 45% Chardonnay), leesy brioche, maturing notes of almond with textbook Krug oxidative oak influence. A blunt vintage with a nice body and early maturing Pinot Noir fruits. Drink now to 2040. (92/100)

I may be in the minority here but the wine had a full blown citrusy character that represented a champagne that needed time. Am I correct in thinking sleeping in the cellar for five more years will round out the citrusy flavors and add more complexity?

Krug ID 2 16 026 so disgorged Q2 2016. Jeroboam which is indeed a rare format and the Krug team said they have never had the 2000 vintage from this format! Very impressive a precise nose initially with it being a dead-ringer for an excellent Chevalier Montrachet with lots of very precise citrus, oysters and sea elements on the nose. Less focused on the palate for some reason, doesn't feel as ripe or balanced as the 166 edition. A touch dilute? Nicknamed "stormy indulgence" by Maggie. After an hour a touch smoky, peaty and some hazlenut. Didn't really hold up that well in the glass. Tasting more stormy in this format and quite different from the single bottle I had 2 years ago which everyone enjoyed much more. Perhaps this younger, late disgorgement version of the 2000 just needs more time?

An evening with wine geeks (Ristorante da Salvo, Stuttgart): Glass: WMF white wine Clear, pale golden yellow color. Young, fresh and dense nose, very animating. Super tasty out of magnum. Explosive, rich, deep fruit with complex brioche and subtle oxidative notes. Superb Krug and drinking well. This pancaked the ‘00 Dom P2 opened alongside it (but the Krug is not nearly as good, at least at this stage, as the ‘95 Dom P2 also opened).

Nose is fresh but has a wonderful nuttiness, like almond and praline, but without being unduly developed. Coffee and cream. Palate has a nice bite of green apple but is open and and easily accessible. Acid is pleasant, this is very nicely balanced. Even better than the last one of these, I’m quite impressed. An open-knit interpretation of what I find to be the usually tightly wound house style. 93+
Slight amber hue, especially when compared to the Pol Roger Churchill from 2000. Showing some nice secondary notes with toasted wood, marcona almonds, hints of preserved lemons. Really opened and at a great point in its life cycle.

2nd Annual Sommelier Appreciation Dinner (Undisclosed Location): Actually the most explosive aromatically of the Krugs, which is saying something as the '85 and '95 were not shy flowers. But there's a ton happening in the nose of this one, from sweaty funk to sawdust to juicy fried chicken (!), though on the palate it's still (natch) by far the youngest and least developed, with bright lemony fruit and an abrasive fizz. Out of magnum.

Sommelier Appreciation Dinner 2019 (The Brown Residence): En magnum and it is very fresh. Expressive nose displaying fresh white and yellow fruit, granny smith, lemon, honey, a hint of yeast, spicy spices and mineral. Beautifully integrated energetic palate, finely layered fresh white fruit, medium abundant very fine mousse, perfect amount of acidity and subtle mineral and a long seamless clean finish. Much fresher than the regular bottle. This particular mag shows beautiful freshness, a bit atypical expression for a vintage Krug.

This was interesting to me. I walked in the door and this was already in glasses. I thought it was slightly austere at first, or at least 2000ish. The wine is literally called "Stormy Indulgence" by Krug to denote the wild weather during the growing season. But then there is that Krug "dark mineral"... The wine really opened up and just got nearly expansive in the mouth. There is soil and oxidized steel, crisp dark citrus and a hint of bergamont. I really liked it a ton!

The only Champagne I have ever had that I think may have been better was the 1996 Krug. This one combines elegant, almost floral, notes with balanced powerful brioche characteristics. Very long beautiful finish, addictive stuff!

Achim's Magnum Tasting 2018; 12/24/2018-12/26/2018 (Berens am Kai 1 star Restaurant): From magnum, not blind The nose and palate refelects the typical Krug perfume. Fresh baken bread crust, roasted hazelnuts, lime. Everything in shape and balance. The best 2000 Krug I had so far. Reaching his peak. Crazy acidity for the vintage. 95-96

Burgs, Rhones, Piedmont, and Krug: Lemony and mineral on the nose with a touch of yeast, it has picked up a hint of nutty richness on the palate while still showing great freshness. Splendid.

Very rich apple throughout with lemon curd and impressive density. For me, this was best when popped-and-poured. So much concentration. Bready character emerged after an hour+ that others really liked, but didn’t thrill me.

Golden, mature, mildly but persistently effervescent. Fully blossomed nose of sea salt caramel, custard, not lemony, rather cinnamon, nutmeg and yellow raisin. Wine-y in the mouth, weightiness lifted by the fine bubbles. Persistence of the finish is good, not outstanding. I would rate it better than the 2003 but not near as impressive as the 100 point 1996. Still we are talking a fabulous wine. 93

This is perfect Krug for me! The right amount of ox showing, making it more of a subtle complexity to the, still, intensely bright and energized citrus cut, tingly ginger bubbles, chalky and savory minerality...with age bringing in some really nice dried honey, truffle buttered brioche... vanilla marshmallow mousse that's creamy yet airy...fantastic grand finale finish with everything going off at once in super balance. Just LOVE this!
(Blind tasting) Full, rich and deep nose of orchard fruit, toast, biscuit and wet stones. Very toasty. Complex. Full body. Rich, nutty and toasty. Powerful, balanced and structured. Almost meaty. Developed on the verge of mature. Very appealing. Long, long finish with very good grip. Hedonistic appearance. In perfect spot.

Pausing for the Cause 2018 (Chicago, IL): 210008. Absolutely solid bottle of Krug, especially with a generous amount of air. Pretty much the archetype of the house -- rich, oxidative notes, with plenty of minerality and acidity to give this wine a sense of direction. Really broad on the palate as well. It doesn't stand out in any particular dimension, but this is a really well-integrated package.

Dinner at Margeaux Brasserie (Chicago, IL): This was a very tight showing of this wine. The nose has classic Krug aromas, with some flavours of apples and some nuts. There's really good power and intensity on the palate, but it tapers off a little on the finish. Clearly a lot of stuffing here, but it's too coiled up to give much. Air did help relax this, but ultimately over the course of the dinner, this didn't really change. Probably best to hold for now.

An exceptional Champagne! Gold color going for amber. Very complex nose with intense layers of aromas that emerge sequentially from orange flowers and citrus peel to honey, strawberry jam, brioche, custard, and herbs of Provence. Hints of delicate oxidation add depth. In the palate, the refreshing and lively acidity is almost a surprise given the color. Very intense flavors of citrus, honey, strawberry jam, toast hazelnuts, and minerality appear in a very harmonious sequence. Flavors linger in the mouth for a good minute and beads a very small and refined. Everything is balanced here, layers add complexity, and acidity gives freshness.

Great nose that has a little bit of everything, toasty brioche, cream, and nicely developed yellow citrus fruit. Fresh and crisp, not overly oxidative stylistically. A delicious toasted nuttiness and praline comes out with time. Subtle smokiness. The palate is round and approachable and has ripe yellow fruit and red apple with citrus acid totally in check.

Dim Sum Club at Imperial Treasure Teochew (Imperial Treasure Teochew, Takashimaya): One of the weaker bottles of 2002 Krug I have had in recent years. Still though, this was nevertheless quite lovely. I really liked the nose on this one - lots of red berries, a touch of light cream, a bit of yeast, just a touch of white meatiness. Tight and subtle at first, growing more engaging as the wine warmed up. The palate was really backward for a 2000 though, still showing a fine, lively mousse and unusually fresh, lean acidity for the vintage, all this draped over a nice core of white melon fruit; these all tinged with some red berries, a little bittersweet lemon zest, and mineral lick into a decent finish. A very fine Champagne, polished and classy, but somehow lacking some of the punch of a great Krug, or indeed of some of the stronger bottles of 2000 that I have in the past.

Compared to a bottle almost 18 months ago, it had taken on more depth on the palate and a very satisfying honeyed note towards the finish. Nose was also heavier however less dimensional. Ripe red apples, hints of sherry and coffee roast, and a bit of funk (that later blew off). Fine energy, long finish. Delicious but not the most intellectually interesting wine. 93p

Amazing Champagne-delicate and refined vintage champagne with nose of honey, lemon, roasted hazel nuts. Palate follows nose characteristics with delicate bubbles of long finish of quince, lemon loaf broche bread biscuit. Goes well with avocado oil fried potato chips. Mineral elements match with overall balance of wine.

Tarte tatin; karamelliserte epler og smør. Svakt hint av vanilje. Bakst, stekeskorpe, lukter som en nystekt croissant. Røde, nesten gule epler. Tydelig utvikling. Stor og kompleks i munn. Pen fylde.

Fantastisk vin!

Powerful, fresh. It seems much younger than all previous tasting vintages ('04, '02). Peach, quince, apple juice, notes of brioche. High acidity, extremely mineral driven with saline and sea breeze.
You can feel body weight despite its freshness and acidity. High class of Krug, but the vintage is weaker than 2002.
There is potential to show with years to come. Yet another proof that vintage Krug show their best around 20 years after the harvest.
Lonny Might Be Turning Sixty (Tilia, Mpls): Light medium gold color. Drank a 1.75 oz pour over 30 minutes. Lonny's bottle, thanks for sharing! A wow wine from the start. Powerfully expressive on the nose with quince, almond, creme brulee, white fruits. The palate is deft, powerful but has that weightlessness , complex, lemon, lemon chiffon, almond custard, so toasty and autolytic, beautiful balance with mid weight texture and a long finish. Outstanding.

Most likely drinking at its peak now. Lighter style but impeccably balanced, perhaps only lacking slightly in intensity. The color is about what you would expect for its age the bubbles were great. Clearly on the more pronounced yeasty side but in a multi-dimensional way with plenty of complexity. an elegant wine...

This wine had a medium yellow center wind clear rims. The mousse was strong and lively. The medium+ intensity nose offered up lemon, vanilla, apples, and white stone.
This wine had a lovely texture in the mouth. Its creamy fruit was balanced beautifully by it persistent bubbles and crisp acidity. It also had a nice finish after receiving a bit of air.
This bottle seem to just barely be coming into its zone and may have a point or so upside. Enjoy!

This is a clean and well mannered sparkler when its cold and turns into a creme brule scented, nut filled cake as it warms up in your glass. Great acidity, great everything, reserved, yet ultimately very revealing of its shy complexity. Drink!

Wow. Light amber gold. Vey fine bubbles. Stunning nose of honey, caramel, hazelnut, brioche and nice clean bread yeast. So complex and do exotic and seductive. Absolutely great place right now and a real success and surprisingly approachable right now. Far better drinking than 2002 which is ver austere at the moment and unyielding. From memory, @ Arzak. Followed the RD 2002, which was definitely more creamy, harmonious and elegant. The Krug has its own way to it though. Much higher energy and persistence, more complexity and depth, and definitely more weight on the palate. It demands your full attention - and deserves it no doubt. I am not wild about it at the moment, but this is greatness of course.

This had great vinous character, clear aged notes, apple skin, baked bread, earthy minerals; fine foamy mouth, elegant but powerful and intense, with excellent acidity and very long in the finish. 2nd day drank kinda like a great older Burgundy. Guessed '96 blend. Blind at Dirty Dozen tasting.

Consistent with prior note. OK, my note of 4 years ago exuded a bit too much breathless enthusiasm, but nonetheless, I remain a fan of this wine, in this vintage. I've had mixed results with Krug wines over the years, sometimes going bananas over them, and sometimes growing tired before the first glass is finished, but this 2000, well, it's just lovely, across the board. I really dig the energy and freshness, it gets under my skin, in a good way; maybe it's just the potential, the thought of what it will become. No doubt, it will certainly outlive me, and I just turned 50. recommended
Audozed 2 hours, served non-blind.

Young but showing gorgeously. Would love to revisit in 10 years and see how it has come along. Color is beautifully golden with a tinge of rouge. At first the nose shows bright citrus (lemon) and honey. After about twenty minutes it transitions into a caramel note and not far after the nose was the most fantastic toasted brioche. That brioche and caramel swirled together for the remainder of the bottle with a hint of lemon. Absolutely breathtaking. Strong effervescence and a beautiful rich golden color. Alcohol is a touch forward but I can see that rounding as it ages. What a fantastic wine.

Clear, Amber brass colour with white rim, tiny sporadic bubbles. Clean, med+ intensity, aromas of toasted brioche, dried apricots, pralines, and Roquefort. Bone dry, high acidity (still), no tannins, med- alcohol, light body, further tastes of pears, lemons marmalade, yeast and roasted chestnuts. Bubbly sensation not as crisp as I was expecting but a delightfully long finish. Drank this for my 15th wedding anniversary and savoured every minute!

Gorgeous champagne that commands attention and delivers pure pleasure at the same time. Complex and layered now, but with plenty of development still to come for the patient. Real depth and power drives the wine together with a superbly balanced acidity. Very fresh and energetic.
As is to be expected, the wine keeps evolving in the glass and shows a broad range of aromas. I particularly liked the subtle notes of lemon curd and licorice, although toasted bread and floral nuances are more prominent at this stage.

Tampa Spring Break (the abridged version); 3/17/2016-3/18/2016 (Various Tampa locations (Mise en Place, Ocean Prime, etc.)): Wine #15: Very toasty, clear blanc de blanc, brioche and toast and very nice champagne. Mike was very taken by this one. I liked it quite a bit, but found it a bit on the tight side. We were some of the initial pours on this and it didn't have much time to come together. This is a champagne that isn't quite ready for business yet and I think it showed that, but it could be something really lovely with more time.

Golden robe with thin strings of tiny bubbles, the nose is surprisingly mature with aromas of marzipan, creme brulee and roasted almonds. The feel in the mouth is even deeper, expanding taste of toffee, caramel mou, roasted coffee, nuts and confit citron. The texture is reminiscent of vanilla cream or caramel flan. Ready to drink now.

PnP. As with the previous times I've had this champagne, this was very tightly wound and had crackling energy. However, it developed into a much broader, expansive wine when I revisited what remained in my glass an hour or two later. A top champagne that has years of potential ahead of it.

Yeasty nose of apple and brioche with lingering smokey, reductive notes. The palate shows apple and yeast flavors. The leesy notes come on quite strong. This has the structure and power you expect from Krug but at least this bottle isn't showing the complexity I want.

HDH Holiday Wine Tasting (HDH Offices - Chicago IL): Tasting, brief note. Mostly apple and toasted brioche with some lemon custard. Wonderful richness and concentration. HDH holiday tasting (Chicago, IL): Krug is always a winner in my book. The nose on this is quite big and yeasty, with the typical Krug gravity. Krug Night with Aldo Sohm (Aldo Sohm Wine Bar, NYC): A blend of 42% pinot noir, 43% chardonnay and 15% meunier, this champagne pours a lighter gold color and thinner legs than those of the 2003. The nose is complex and heady driven by minerality and citrus. There are supporting notes of tropical fruits, granny smith apples, fresh cut grass and aloe. In fact, there are even whiffs of saline ocean air, almost like fishy smells, to it as well. On the palate, the structure is definitely thinner than that of the 2003. Nonetheless, the creamy mousse is still present with a bready character and a lightness to it. Notes of nori, smoked salmon, cider, toast, and citrus oils dominate the palate. Towards the end, the champagne yields a clean cut and a somewhat more restrained smoky scent than that of the 2003. Nonetheless, there is a raciness and balance to it like a great Ramonet Montrachet. Although somewhat acidic now, this will age well and develop into a more balanced champagne marked by concentration, finesse and lightness.

Classic Krug. Rich nose with notes of fresh fruit laced with bread/yeast, but still quite fresh and inviting. Richer and more complex than the 2003. Full with good round weight on the palate. But still not quite as good as the Grand Cuvée 2003 base year.

Bright lemon, hazelnut and pecan, oyster shell. Less spice on the nose than a bottle six months ago. Citrus peel and nice acid across the palate. Crisp. Quite tart backpalate acid. A blend of Chardonnay (43%), Pinot Noir (42%) and Pinot Meunier (15%).
Deep and quite intense greenish-yellow color. Rich, ripe and remarkably complex nose with brooding aromas of juicy yellow fruits, nut paste, juicy citrus fruits, some toasty nougat character, a little bit of cookie dough, a hint of smoke and a touch of red-toned fruit. Very impressive. The wine is robust, remarkably broad-shouldered and intense yet not particularly big on the palate with bone-dry, tightly-knit flavors of tart green apples, lemony citrus fruits, some toasty autolysis, a little bit of caramel or fudge, light hazelnut tones suggesting oxidative vinification, hints of chalky minerality and apple peel bitterness and a touch of oven-warm brioche. The wine is remarkably racy and focused with its high acidity and ample, foamy mousse. The finish is bright, firm and even somewhat steely with long and complex flavors of tart green apples, vibrant minerality, some brioche, a little bit of nuanced nuttiness, light notes of toffee and caramel, a hint of lemony citrus fruits and a touch of coffee.
A remarkably complex, structured and intense vintage Champagne that shows some oxidative complexity, but as the wine overall comes across remarkably youthful for its age, the nuttiness and caramel tones seem more stemming from the winemaking, not from the age of the wine. Overall the wine reminds me quite a bit of Bollinger's La Grande Année with its brooding, rich and nutty style, but as a bit lighter, more delicate and and less burly version. This is just stunningly beautiful and fascinating Champagne that easily grabs your attention and doesn't let go. Drinking wonderfully now, but I don't doubt for a moment this wine couldn't keep on developing for another 15 years and much longer. Very highly recommended. Wowzers.

Giallo paglierino carico, bolla fine e presente.

I don't drink as much Krug as I should! So I don't have much experience in comparing this with other vintages. This was round and most importantly not tart and sharp. Rich and intense yet with hidden acidity to balance it out. Love it. Drinking beautifully now and this is a vintage which probably tastes superb in its whole life.

Wine dinner at Blacksalt - Prévost, Krug, Pichler, Raveneau, Fevre, Grivot, LLC, Yquem & etc. (Blacksalt, Washington DC): Served single blind with MV Krug. People often have misconception of the style of MV which can make this very challenging. My first impression was that MV was the vintage but quickly changed my mine. The vintage Krug, MV and CdM all have very distinct styles and quite different from each other. The vintages always display oxidative notes via brioche and more polished than MV, MV tends to be always ready, denser and fresher and the CdM combines complexity, freshness, precision and energy. Started very oxidative and mature but with air, gets fresher and gain weight as usual. Complex nose displaying yellow fruits, key lime pie, orange rind, apple pie, brioche, burnt sugar and sweet spices. Medium concentration, nicely layered sweet ripe yellow fruits, fine mousse, bright acidity and seamless sweet finish. It is fully mature and ready to go but this being a vintage Krug, I wouldn’t be surprised if it lasts for a few decades. It adheres to the Vintage style and very similar to how the recent 96s showed. It however slightly lacks the incredible concentration of the 96.

House Party (Chicago, IL): Well, that's how I like 'em. Lots of the typical Krug richness, but this one is very well counterbalanced by a more prominent grapefruit note. A moderate amount of acidity on this one, with a good amount of chalky texture as well. Great stuff.

Opened for my wife's birthday lunch. Very precise and focused. Full of tightly coiled energy. Not a broad and expansive champagne, but rather one of freshness and laser like focus. A bit on the lighter side and features a very prominent acidic backbone. Long, clean finish. I think this needs at least 5 more years to put on a bit of weight and gain some depth.

Fantastic. The only wine better than the 2004 Comtes this evening was the 2000 Krug. Needed a little time in the glass to open up, but then showed spades of fresh apples and citrus, flint and chalk, caramel and honey all in perfect harmony. On the palate it is full bodied, creamy yet slightly aggressive mousse and razor sharp acidity to provide freshness and backbone. This is a champagne for the cellar, but don't be afraid to pop one now, you will not regret it. 96-?

(yumcha w Elaine, Chirong, Mario, Demitri, Anna et al) Effortlessly aromatic lemon limes, with toasted bread and soft yeast. White florals and talc, with honeysuckle. Fine beads. Chewy biscuits, toasted bread, lively acidity, lemon rind, rounded with buttery croissant, creme brulee, and a tautly balanced off-dry sweetness. Juicy and young, with the tiniest hint of marmalade development. Crisp limestone finish, citrus intensity with green apples, and red apple peel. An effortless, long, lingering finish, pure, focused and ringing. Elegant, but still too young!

It's Krug so it has to be good and it is. Slightly lighter than some vintages but the toasty Krug character is on display and the balance is impeccable.

Chateau Pichon Baron Vertical with Jean-Rene Matignon (Ripple Restaurant in DC): It has gained weight and became rounder and sweeter. Medium expressive yellow fruit, lemon curd, orange rind, baked apple, toast/sesame, brioche and sweet spices. Medium concentration, lovely mousse, decadent yellow fruit driven palate impression, bright acidity and lovely clean finish. This is developing rapidly but this being a vintage Krug, I wouldn’t be surprised if it lasts for a few decades. Another five years of cellaring will help but already delicious.

Chateau Pichon Baron vertical 1989-2010 (Ripple Restaurant in Washington D.C.): What a way to start a vertical of Chateau Pichon Baron! Marvelous bubbly. Combines citrusy verve with a creamy mid palate. Fine bubbles, clean aromas of brioche, lemon and lime fruit, subtle notes of red apple and stone fruit, the flavors echo in your palate and the texture is smooth with a full bodied feel that caresses all the while impressing you with substance and corpulence leading to a long and tantalizing finish.

Lots of toast and ripe red apple and plum and cherry on the finish. While the fruit is ripe it is almost overwhelmed by huge amounts of acidity. The component parts here are impressive but this feels like it needs time to come together and integrate. Summer '13 Disgorge. 92+

Vintages come vintages go, but Krug is Krug. This beautiful 2000 albeit still young has all the hallmarks of greatness. Elegant, rich on the nose , toasty. Young and tigt on the palate but still very nice. Well round and rich wine. 5yrs away from something really special. 94 now but easily a high 90s once it evolves more.

This is a very focused and precise champagne. Faint, darkened yellow. Mature citrus and wood notes. Mid-pallet and finish hold the structure with zesty and noticeable acidity. Multi-layered. Sharp. Unfolds like a christmas gift. Very beautiful.

Great nose, delineated citrus, showing it's Chardonnay dominant profile, sharp and biting on the palate, intense flavors of lemon, lemon zest, sharp acidity supporting, very well balance, wonderful, certainly young and energetic, love it now, but will integrate into something even mor refined with some time...

Dinner at Elite (Elite Chinese Restaurant - Los Angeles, CA): The first bottle of this I tried seemed a bit more advanced while this had more firmness and tightness (as I would have expected with such a young Krug). This had lots of great material, and the beautiful toasty notes that Krug always seems to have...that "bakery-in-a-bottle" thing. Should reward patience...the firmness here was noteworthy.

Judgement of Sydney Blind Tasting: Brioche, sea spray, mandarin and musk aromas. Powerful palate, good cut from the acid too - it isn't all punch, there is a sense of finesse that pervades throughout. Has the potential to improve greatly, I'd give it 5-10 years and check in again.

Drunk at a Krug event. Mid gold colour. On the nose this presents a rich combination of citrus, orchard, toast and oyster shell (quite prominent). On the palate minerality and richness combine impressively in a champagne which is already enjoyable but needs more time to develop. I currently prefer the 1998 which has quite a different (and for me more Krug) profile. **** (****1/2)

A magnificent bottle of wine! The by far best Champagne from the otherwise rather mediocre vintage of 2000. Easily the most intriguing and best 2000 Champagne I have yet enjoyed. On the nose a typical Krug profile, with gunpowder, minerals & quarrel gravel and dust, brioche, loads of yellow apples, some second layers with pears. Simply wonderful. On the palate this is even more complex, still young with lots of potential. It’s extremely balanced, buttery and creamy with beautiful yellow apples, some pears, hints of citrus & great minerallity, perhaps slightly low acidity, but very, very balanced and long. Such a creamy and beautiful creation. This gives a quite semi mature impression, and drinks just lovely. I will definitely stock up on this. It has plenty of years in it, but ready for full throttle enjoyment already. Krug is Krug, and Krug is great. 96 +

On the nose, Gun powder, honey, rubber, toast and a fresh summer wind over a summer meadow that hits you straight in the nose. On the palate, A certain smokiness, almonds, sweet rubber, hint of mineral and yellow apples. The acidity is very present and at this time i would let the bottles rest for a couple of years. Long finish
nose; floral, minerals, pickled ginger, and smoke. palate; brioche, pears, almonds, and lemon zest. high acidity. 60 second plus finish. all the same general notes as from two years ago. Visit to Krug including a premiere tasting of 2003 Krug (Reims): The colour is medium yellow+. Nose with yellow apples, some pear, citrus, mineral, discrete nuttiness, some honey, fine development, very well integrated oak note. With some time in the glass more notes of cocoa powder and coffee enters the mix. The palate shows powerful concentration, yellow and some green apples, high acidity, pronounced mineral notes, spice, some mint, high acidity, and an aftertaste with green apples and mineral. Somewhat warm and ripe impression. Accessible now, good potential, 94-95 p.
When the 2000 Krug was released in late 2011, the vintage came across as rather closed, but already the next year quite a lot had happened to it. Definitely a “user-friendly” Krug that is open and accessible now, but with a long life span ahead of it.

Very Krugy with its nose of brioche, roasted nuts and smoked meats. It is rich, minerally and detailed in the mouth with explosive power but light on its feet at the same time. Bead is super fine and mousse incredibly creamy. Length of flavour is terrific.

Such a terribly soft champagne. This one seems even easier drinking than the one we had about a month ago. The bubbles just melt. Nice and toasty. Finish is a bit fruity - some lemon - with another taste that could be capers. A touch of spice throughout. Fantastic Champagne - laying the rest of ours down for some years.

A Krug lunch at http://delcampodc.com/ (Del Campo Restaurant): Although Krug does not stand for hierarchy, often serving first the vintage, then the grande cuvee (as we did for this lunch) this vintage wine has more aromatic substance and complexity than the grande cuvee. The 2000 combines fleshiness and energy in one bottle. The density is there, with focus. Citrus, mineral, wet stone, soft spicy ginger notes, hints of pastry. But what beguiles is the wine's mid palate substance and structure. Less Pinot Meunier here, the wine is dominated more by Pinot Noir from the 2000 vintage and it has an almost red wine corpulence. So much so that I almost ordered a steak but went for the prawns instead. It could easily go with a steak.

In blind tasting that included D. Perignon 2004 and Cristal 2005, this was the winner by most accounts. Beautiful gold hue. Very pronounced brioche, baguette on the mouth. Dry and austere, especially compared to the more fruity Cristal.

Wow - what a wine! First vintage Krug for us and while the expectations were high it lived up to them. The bubbles were so incredibly fine almost like drinking cashmere. I got toffee covered popcorn, a bit of toast throughout which was nice. Preferred it after it had sat in the glass for about ten minutes, the flavors were a bit more muted at that point and just a lovely wine. Perfect for a NYE celebration with wine friends.

Burgundy Dinner with Friends (Acadia, Chicago, IL): Probably the 12th time I've had this over the past year or so and yet to disappoint. Great freshness on the palate with great fresh lemon and lemon curd notes. Some toasty notes as well, but not as toasty at this stage as say the 98 vintage. Good structure and acidity all throughout. Delicious Champagne with a long life ahead.

Birthday lunch for KG, Alex and William (Hua Ting, Orchard Hotel): Very youthful for a 2000 Champagne – this still has some way to go before it hits a good drinking window, but the vintage Krug character and quality was there, so that quite a few of us picked this correctly when blinded. The nose was typical, with rich scents of apples and ripe lemons, with some cream and toast, a touch of earth, and a little spice and mineral accent at the edges. The palate was still very fresh and lively, with a fine creamy mousse on it. The 2000 character was there I the ripe, powerful feel of the wine, and there was plenty of tautly muscular structure and depth. However, this always remained very classy, never over-big or hefty, with subtle flavours of apples and white fruit and a long finish of flinty mineral and little bit of spice. Still so very youthful, this needs many years yet, but it is very good.

Crush's Champagne Gala 2013 (Crush Wine & Spirits, Midtown Manhattan): Deep straw, not quite golden. Rich, yeasty, buttery nose; raspberry. Krug Champagne Dinner (Denver): THis was the most beautiful wine of the evening, housed the most grace, poise, and elegance. The nose of fresh flowers, ocean, lemon/lime citrus was superbly integrated, and each was easily distinguishable every sip. The wine seemed weightless. I was told this is predominately Chardonnay. This one could use many years in the bottle to get even better. Served with shaved smoked pork tenderloin. My favorite wine of the night.

Krug-fest with Olivier Krug: Leaner than even the Grande Cuvee Jeroboam, this was distinguished by a noticeable saline nose and taste. Initially quite tart, dry and lean, it became more yeasty and toasty with air – lots of apple and lemon, turning more to pear with even some white chocolate creaminess in time. In truth, I was a little disappointed with this after the floral fireworks of the Mesnil and improvement in the glass of the Grande Cuvee but it may just need lots (and lots) more time. Frankly the wine seemed somewhat closed. The most acidic and light-bodied of the vintage Krugs tried, but could be one to watch if the high-pinot element blossoms in the future (it really doesn’t show at the moment). One to bury in the cellar. 94pts

TN: Ruinart & Krug (POB's): Wow, this is mazing. Golden in color. The nose has ginger, citrus, ginger beer, and a hint of caramel. With air, a bit of a slightly toasted bread crumb note emerges. On the palate, this is tight but precise. Almost the opposite of the MV. This really needs air and time. Going back later, this is starting top open and show layers of complexity. Really long finish that almost seemed to get stronger after a minute. Showed even better than I expected.

Quite aldehydic on the nose with loads of grilled nuts and some yeasty aromas. Powerfully built in the mouth but just a tad disjointed as green apple malic acidity sits off the fruit on the finish.

Intensely fresh aromas of apples, white grapefruit. Some buttery, yeasty notes, but they play a background note to the vibrant fruit. Sharp acidity that gives me confidence of its aging potential, but definitely needs some time to round out. Quite dry. Overall, the definition of elegant Champagne.

At the Bordeaux Index Champagne. A sleeping giant in a way but not a shame to open one now. Yet history teaches us that these just get better. To be honest the wine was served a bit too cold and took away from it to start but as the temp went higher so did the wine. Although the richness is there, lovely ripe fruit, long long finish and full of life it still needs more time to hit its stride in full. This is a mastermind concert but with the amp set 1 and although u love it u know this can go to 11! 93-94 at this stage but sky is the limit as this evolves. Moet Hennessey USA tasting (The Graham Georgetown): Interesting to segue to this from the Doms as it really showcased the difference in the house style. You always hear the word "oxidative" bandied about to describe the Krug technique, which never really made sense to me because I've never gotten an oxidized note in any of them. But Seth explained it's really just about the initial wood fermentation which gives it that controlled micro-oxidation exposure that any wine in barrel is going to get which has the effect (his analogy) of a person being born 35 years old and staying that way for 35 years - in other words, more evolved on release, and with a very different developmental curve than the Doms. Both the evolution and the power are really evident here, as this has a rich aroma with cherries and something caramelly, and a much deeper fruit complexion than the Doms (even the rosé!): I found it remarkable how vivid the red-fruit character was here, and I forget what the blend was exactly, but I was surprised it wasn't even heavier on the red grapes based on how it tasted.

Moët Portfolio Tasting (Graham Georgetown Hotel - Washington, DC): Years of studying wine, tasting wine, collecting and storing it, sometimes you forget what it is about wine that drives a person to dedicate so much time, money and effort. Then a wine like this comes along and floors you, leaves you in complete awe, and reminds you that life is awesome. This Krug shows a beautiful golden apple color. A collage of rich and intense aromas: fresh biscuits, apricot, hazelnut, honey, caramel, shortbread cookies, the aromas don't quit. Dense and bold on the palate, but balanced by superb acid. Rich themes of apricot, hazelnut, honeycomb, caramel, Fuji apple, but they're contrasted with intense limestone and quinine flavors. Full and hedonistic, yet sleek and elegant, this Champagne is a beautiful contradiction. 43% Chardonnay, 42% Pinot Noir, 15% Pinot Meunier. I'd love to taste another bottle of this again when I'm old and crotchety.
Powerful midway styled between lively citric and sweeter yeasty red apples. Still relatively tight and tense yet does soften up as it goes along in the glass. Quite tasty if u get past the tightness on the front.

Dinner at Enoteca Italiana (Enoteca Italiana, Bangkok): This was immensely impressive for a youngish vintage Krug. Really tight at first, it only slowly opened up to show typical notes of bread and yeast, rich aromas of apple flesh, then lots of mineral and a twist of lime zest. I really liked that nose. The palate was just as tight on first pour as well - it was all about lemons and limes. However, this was also a wine that showed all of the 2000 vintages' richness and fleshy power; and while not the sharpest cut vintage Krug, it still retained a nice amount of focus and solid balance - all making for a friendly package in spite of being very young and monolithic. With time though, the primary citrus flavours opened up quite nicely, fanning out into mouthfilling flavours of fleshy white fruit, more of those lovely apples picked up on the nose, and then into long, round, fleshy finish, where the fruit was sprinkled with spice and scored with a nice minerally undertow. Excellent stuff. Very youthful, but excellent nonetheless. Give it 3-4 years and it should be great.

Stunning, youthful, precise and full. Easily the best wine on the night. After the first sip I caught my self dreaming (fantasizing?) that I could drink this for the rest of my life. To that end, I woke the next morning, still thinking about it. In my opinion, the majority of high-priced wines are really just over-priced wines. This is a major exception to that rule, and if you've never splurged but remain curious, do yourself a big favor and source some straight away. recommended

France 2012 - Champagne; 7/24/2012-7/25/2012 (Epernay): Tasted at Krug. 210010 ID code. Smells fresher and younger than the 1998 with floral and brighter apple and citrus notes. On the palate this is fresh and airy with a fine mousse yet also rich and complex at the same time. Great acidity and a long citrusy finish. Fantastic champagne but closed at the moment. Had it next to the 1998 and Grande Cuvee at the winery in Reims and for me finished behind the other two (probably because it was closed). The 1998 is a champagne unlike anything I had before (just because it's different) and I lean more towards the Grande Cuvee then the 2000, but both I would keep and try again in 5 years time.

This was opened immediately after finishing off a bottle of the NV Krug Grande Cuvee. What was immediately apparent (and not surprising) was how much more vibrant the fruit was in comparison to the Grande Cuvee. Also, loads more acidity. Citrus notes dominate the palate. I expected it to be wound up tight, but was approachable from first pour. Great richness and texture. This was fanfreakintastic now, and I can't wait to taste it with some age on it. I'm glad I opened one cuz I was debating on backfilling with 1995 vs current release 2000 as they're the same price. I'm picking up more 2000s...and still backfilling. :)

As expected this has shown good precision and level of focus and finesse. This has quite a strong touch of sweetness that related to caramelised apple or candy, which match well with its sharp, high acidity. Full of flavours with caramelised apple, apricots, pineapple, honey, mineral & toasted nuts, and has a quite expansive and broad palate. Some spices at the back as well, and starting to display harmonious, sensual mouth feel. Quite a sublet finish - still a bit tight but keeps lingering. Should be offering great pleasure with few more years.

2012 - Lunch and Midnight drink (Chinois @ RWS, Sentosa): It was too cold, so quite hard to access, especially the aroma. Shy and tight but focus and fresh with layer of yeast, pear and lemon citrus. It has touch of sweetness at the core with saline mineral edge, I thought the sweetness was from the dosage. Full bodied, not the usual muscular Krug that giving huge punch on the entry and mid palate. This was quite elegance. Light on the palate despite the massive acid structure, there was little complexity to give now but with good depth and balance. Sweetness surface at the long, palate staining finish. Again, I thought the dosage have not fully settled down hence the sweetness at the end. Give it another 3-5yrs and should offer better layer / nuances when the dosage fully integrated to the juice. 92-93+

drank it together with GC and 1998 at Krug, very elegant, crisp acidity, Brioche, almond, citrus, yeasty with long finish, for me good as an aperitif and fits to pastry, I prefer the 1998

Wine Berserkers Telluride Ski Wine & Dine Krug Tasting (Silver Peaks, Telluride CO): My system (nose, mouth, finish) +++, Poured with the 1998. Warmer year with no excess heat. Showing a great focus of acidity, framed by a little oak, floral and citrus notes. Needs more time to show full potential. This is very complex on the nose. Fresh clean and pure. The fact that it's still too young makes it a bit too intense on the scent of lees, but that is sort of superficial as there's plenty going on as well. Citrus notes dominate here. Structure is quite promising, with very long and live finish. This will grow complex and strong with time.

Pure magic. This is drinking well already. On the palate it is cool with bright red fruit, apple, and a bit of yeast. Unbelievable power behind it, but not in a way that makes it seem inaccessible or tight. Best champagne I had in 2011 and one of the best ever. Buy as much as you can afford.

Krug Masterclass at Decanter Fine Wine Experience (London): Bright yellow, slighty lighter hue than the 1998, good mousse, small bubbles. Nose of citrus – grapefruit, ripe lemons and zest, mineral, yellow apple, some spice, flowery notes with white flowers, some vanilla and perfume notes, discrete nutty and bready notes. The nose is fairly reminiscent of a an oaked blanc de blancs. On the palate yellow apples with some winter apples, some peach, citrus, noticeable minerality and acidity, spice, fresh and acidic aftertaste with apple and citrus notes together with some grapefruit bitterness. Young, definitely has potential. 92-93+ p.
More apple notes in the nose than Clos du Mesnil 2000. The acidity is somewhat lower than Clos du Mesnil, but the difference is not too large, less fress citrus notes, slightly spicier and somewhat more ready to drink. But on balance they are rather similar!

Decanter Krug Masterclass (Landmark Hotel London): Deep lemon green colour with golden highlights. Nose with yeast, coffee, and toast alongside the citrus fruit. Palate with toast, quince, ripe citrus peel. Lacks somehow the intensity and persistence of Clos du Mesnil from the same vintage but still it is harmonious with a long refreshingly bitter aftertaste.

Firm but not overwhelming acidity in contrast to 98 vintage... I suppose some may say its still relatively tightly wound but I find it approachable now with its refreshing zingy citrus zest and delicately spiced perfume. At the moment, the magic is in its finishing signature of exceptional richness and length when its ultra fine mousse slowly melts and diffuses on the palate.

All I can remember from this early February NV and 2000 vintage tasting at Pops for Champagne in Chicago is thinking that I clearly did something right to be there. This is the Krug lovers Krug. While Krug purports to declare a vintage only in years that produce a "unique" style, I think this is utterly classic; not to be missed.

Tasting note:
Late release. Cépages 43% PN, 42% Ch, 15% PM. 14 years on lees, degorged Q1 2015. Unfortunately this was corked, hard to make any comments.

very chalky nose, full of fresh citrus fruit and some white peach,
some caramel slightly, spice,
great fresh mouthfeel, very balanced and limy, citrus, green apples, but this is a real mouthful of a sparkler, still firm and creamy, with a finesse like long+ finish,
for me this vintage of Krug due to this bottle is in its very prime, so would recommend to just pnp and enjoy! ****, Around 92- 94

WOTN

Tasted as part of a Bordeaux dinner
Powerful, complex, very long, with ample fruit and acid. Impeccably balanced. Into secondary characteristics; marmalade and quince, but still with an enjoyable primary biscuit tone. In a great place right now. No hurry though.

Purchased two bottles of these by auction this year,
so pnp the first one, Krug-ID: 210010, 43% PN, 42% Chard.,15% PM,
initially very citrus driven nose, we two both pour in two different glasses to search for differences, the first a Riedel Sommelier Champagne flute, the second the Gabriel glas, more balance in the flute at first,
the nose full of citrus zest and quince, nuts
the palate some warm dark German Schwarzbrot, hazelnuts, and as a backbone limy spice,
needs the aeration to get structured in both glasses, after one hour it reveals a delicate, deep finesse-like Champagne to chew on,
do not have that much Krug in my glasses, but I do have to commit, Krug never fails,
after at least two hours there is no significant difference in using two various glasses,
this vintage of Krug for me is with upside still, so if you open one, give this a decent decant or hold it for a decade+ more, very convincing bottle, this is one of the rare euphoriant ones!

Liljekonvalj och vårblommor
Extrem stor och rund i munnen med härlig syra och röda äpplen. Extremt lång eftersmak som växer i munnen. Efter mer tid i glaset kommer mer honung och persika. Riktigt gott!

This was interesting to me. I walked in the door and this was already in glasses. I thought it was slightly austere at first, or at least 2000ish. The wine is literally called "Stormy Indulgence" by Krug to denote the wild weather during the growing season. But then there is that Krug "dark mineral"... The wine really opened up and just got nearly expansive in the mouth. There is soil and oxidized steel, crisp dark citrus and a hint of bergamont. I really liked it a ton!

A very fine Champagne, polished and classy, but somehow lacking some of the punch of a great Krug, or indeed of some of the stronger bottles of 2000 that I have in the past.

also heavier however less dimensional.

Magnificent Krug Vintage vertical (Riga, Latvia): 🏅Rating 97/100 (4,7⭐)
Powerful, fresh. It seems much younger than all previous tasting vintages ('04, '02).
Peach, quince, apple juice, notes of brioche.
High acidity, extremely mineral driven with saline and sea breeze.
You can feel body weight despite its freshness and acidity.
High class of Krug, but the vintage is weaker than 2002.
There is potential to show with years to come. Yet another proof that vintage Krug show their best around 20 years after the harvest.

Enjoy!

No doubt, it will certainly outlive me, and I just turned 50. recommended

As is to be expected, the wine keeps evolving in the glass and shows a broad range of aromas. I particularly liked the subtle notes of lemon curd and licorice, although toasted bread and floral nuances are more prominent at this stage.

Wowzers.

Tasted non blind.
Light yellow color in the glass, clear looking throughout with tiny, steady beading. Yeasty, toasty nose of mixed yellow fruits, hazelnut and brandy soaked pears. Flavors of lemon curd, brandy pears and minerals. Bright acidity, full bodied. Drink or hold.

Throwndown in Madtown; 8/27/2015-8/29/2015 (Madison, WI): I don't get all of the really high scores for this. It is a very nice champers with bright gold color. Nose of orange peel, toast, pear, vanilla, and smoke. On the palate, pear, citrus peel and pith, ginger, and toast with a nice mineral streak. Decent lift on the finish. Might show better with more age.

Krug Lunch with Julien Pepin Lehalleur (The Winery, Surrey Hills): Richer and more developed than 2003, palate is buttery with hints of toasted almonds with an spicy underbelly, perfectly balanced fresh citrus streak. The clear wine of the night. Must be one of the best examples of a 2000 available.
This wine is drinking sublimely now, but has decades to unfold.

Palate is rich, with wicked acidity framing huge, primary fruit -- very unevolved and closed, but creamy and very long with a fine mousse. This is pretty fabulous but desperately needs time to round out a bit.

Crush's Annual Champagne Gala 2013 (Crush Wine & Spirits, Midtown Manhattan.): Nose loaded with vanilla and menthol. Exotic element of creamy malt like a cocktail, licorice, absinthe. Light and elegant on the palate. Great acid, lemon, vanilla, malt, absinthe again. Moderate mousse. Great finish. Just amazing. 18/20.

Not very giving at this stage ( especially compared to the beautiful 98). Good firm acidity at this stage, very balanced and elegant but really needs 5yrs to enter its giving stage. 93+ from us at this stage.

We couldnt but smile thinking that we have 6 of these sleeping...

Crush's Annual Champagne Gala 2012: Quick note (18 wines in an hour). Clearly a step up from the previous wines. Light gold. Creamy nose with malt, mocha, lemon and spice. Creamy entry on the palate with similar flavors to the nose: malt, mocha and lively lemon. Soft mousse, but the mouthfeel and acid build into the finish - this is still young. Nose - 5.5/6, Palate - 5.5/6, Finish - 5/6, Je Ne Sais Quoi - 1-1.5/2 = 17-17.5/20.
