Dark, burnt crimson colour. Small berries and currants in the nose. A hint of toastiness or some dried herbs? All follows through seamlessly on the palate and finish with a dry, medium length, dry tanning finish.

Decent for a supermarket value Brunello

Waxy lemon, some gum notes on the nose. Good acidity and minerality on the palate but with a big hole where some fruit would have been good. Makes it unbalanced and a disappointing wine.

And yes, I did buy some old Rioja from the UK recently - always worth a punt in my view when odd and interesting bottles pop up.
