Slow oxidized and expressive nose within minutes of opening. The usual trappings of super ripe Napa: oak, blackberry, high alcohol. Full body, med+ acidity. Ripe tannins very well integrated. Just not my cup of tea.

4th Saturday Uptown Brown Bagger (MM's): Double blind. Dark youthful color. Aromas of soy and raisin. Full-bodied with fine-grained tannins and flavors of black currant, soy and plum. Better on the palate than the nose suggests it will be, but this is not my cup of tea. No guess, but having tasted this earlier in the year I am all but certain this was not a representative bottle. Friday Group Brown Bag Tasting (EBCC): Double decanted off its sediment and served perhaps three hours later. Dark fruit with a dusty edge. Hints of spice and barrel toast as well. Ripe plummy fruit on the palate with a nice finish. A bit young yet, but there's good potential.

I think this is the first time I've truly understood the "cigar box" tasting note because this wine has it in spades, along with cassis/currants. A hint of oxidation on the palate which suggests it's good I'm drinking this one now -- might not have lasted much longer. Enjoying it!

Very dark red/purple color. Drank glasses over two days. This was in fine shape on opening and even more revealing after twenty-four hours. Very pretty cigar box on the nose with cedar shavings, cassis and black cherry. The palate feels masculine in structure, yet still giving and soft; the cigar stands out with the lovely dark fruits highlighted by cassis, black cherry and plum, dried wood, tobacco and spices fill the mouth as this coats with satiny persistence. Loved it, great with our Akaushi tenderloins tonight. This can certainly go another 10 years though I don't know it will be any better.

Lovely. Not an “in your face” decade-plus old Rutherford - like a Lede Rock Block can be, upon opening, floral notes wafted from the bottle and glass leading to medium minus tannins and a somewhat shallow backbone of red currents cedar and plum. Graceful. On the cusp of brickish color at the edge, after an hour’s airing the floral notes were replaced with subtle black fruits which presented mid palate through a silky finish. Perhaps not a blockbuster, but for what I paid for it (thanks WTSO), I’m glad I’ve another bottle. Cheers!

Beautiful floral aromas. Wow. Dark red with purple hues in the glass. Dark red and black fruits. There's still a good deal of grip present from the tannins which frame the wine nicely. The wine itself seems uneventful and lacks flavor. Finish is medium at best. Was expecting more. I believe it needs to open up. Will revisit the score later after further decant.

After consuming the first bottle a few years ago without a long decant, I decanted this one for 60 minutes. It was still a bit tight after the first pour but it opened up after 30 minutes. Dark berry, tobacco and a bit of oak with a finish that lingered beautifully for several minutes, this was a perfect pairing with prime rib (my dinner that night).

Brookie and I enjoyed this bottle for the first time from any vintage tonight with our friends Robin and Frank, at Venue. The bottle was decanted, but we all started drinking about 20 minutes into the decant and finished off the bottle about an hour later. I'm not sure additional time in the decanter, or in the cellar, will improve this bottle, but I have two more in the cellar so time will tell. Cassis, slight tobacco, emerging green note of something, maybe herb of some type, well integrated, receding tannins, no hint of alcohol as stated in other reviews, and very elegant in style I thought. Decent price point for the quality. Inviting nose, smooth mid palate, above average finish. I think this should go for another 10 years. No opinion as to whether more time in the cellar will improve this bottle. Not overly complex, but delicious and without any significant flaws.

I liked it. Good, but not as good as other vintages I've has and I'm struggling with the price point. Decanted for 1.5 hours. Still, a good solid Rutherford cab. Dark Ruby with a velvety viscous mouth feel. Prune & dark fruit with soft balanced tannins. Was missing some leather and spice that I'd hoped for. Good food wine. Drank a little better on day two.

Popped and poured about 30 minutes later with leg of lamb. Dark berry, spices, and cigar box aromas. Delicious dark fruit/dark berry, leather/earth, and mocha flavors. Decanted two hours. As other tasters have noted, this is in an intermediate state in its evolution and not entirely predictable. After two hours of decant, the palate had some notes of sweet and sour prunes along with the cassis and firm tannins. The prunes faded and the wine showed best from 2.5-3.5 hours, then got quite chewy and full bodied. We enjoyed it the whole time but this is one of my long-time-favorite cuvees and others will not find it pleasing at the moment. I have confidence it will emerge as a lovely aged classic Napa Cab with some more cellar time.
Decanted & enjoyed over several hours. Flavors of dark cherries, mocha, spice. A little bit of heat given the high alcohol content. Also a bit of a tannic grip. First of three in the cellar, going to wait to 2025 to revisit.

This was our sixth, and bit more than one year after the prior: Same disappointing underlying bitterness — and now, a hint of dried raisin and mud. Perhaps this reflects inelegant aging of a high alcohol (15.7 percent) fruit bomb. Stored at consistent 55-61 degrees F since release directly to our hands from the winery. Consistent results over four nights.

Very disappointing, given the vintage and name. Texture, complexity and mouthfeel like a serious wine, but flavor just never got to where I could say I was enjoying it, over two nights under pump.

Decanted, and enjoyed subsequent to the 2010 Silver Oak Napa. Not quite as elegant and aromatic as the Silver Oak, but certainly a bit more complex and muscular. Leads off with upfront dark earthtones and mixed black fruits. Well Integrated and balanced with black fruit, oak, tannin and acids all in synchronization. Long powerful finish.

This wine opened up after an hour of decant time & presented beautifully. Certainly one to go the distance, so will be hard to keep my hands off. Exactly what you'd expect from a classic GDLT.

Thick, restrained, but pleasant high-octane Napa Cab with fine tannins and hints of chocolate and leather. Are they still building these for the long term? Possibly will be more interesting in a few years.

Showing well now. Chewy tannins underneath a great velvety mouthfeel. Mocha, dark chocolate, oak, ripe summer cherries. Big boy at 15.7 abc and you do get some heat on a long finish.
Overall enjoyed this. Think drinking window is here not sure additional time going to do much here.

Opened in bottle for a few hours. Still some substantial yet manageable heat on this one (as was the case with the 08 and 09). Nonetheless likely drinking close to peak with the palate on full display and tannic grip almost resolved. Up front is a big extracted palate of milk chocolate, cherry liqueur, vanilla extract, cassis, and stewed plums. A fortunate touch of freshness (dried herbs, mint, and cooling minerals) laces the finish. Over time a damp earth note and additional alcohol do start to weigh it down. Good but not great.

Opened and decanted for approx. one hour before pouring. Beautiful deep blueberry and floral nose. Consumed over the next hour for my daughter's birthday. Everyone enjoyed this with filet mignon done in a cabernet reduction. One of the best G.de Latour vintages I have ever tasted. Seemed to be in the "right spot" even though it probably had at least 5 or more years left.

Upon opening had nice berry flavor which disappeared after electing to air for an hour. Over the next two hours the wine was persistently harsh and alcoholic on the finish, with bland fruit and little complexity. The wine was simply unenjoyable and an atrocious price-quality ratio.

Very similar to our note in July — with the addition that this one, especially on days two and three, seemed to take on some very pleasant savory aged black olive character. The high alcohol did not detract.

I am giving this wine a lower score because of the alcohol level. Nose is all alcohol with a hint of cherries & berries. 15.7% alcohol? Really? Syrah isn't that high. My palate is completely moving away from these Old World, one dimensional, high alcohol Cabs. I would have zero interest in owning a lot of this wine. Your palate might be different but for me no Thanks. 89 is generous

Our best bottle of this vintage so far. Dark and rich, with a touch of signature dust, cassis and a bit of oak. The excessively high alcohol did not detract. Perfect accompaniment to highly spiced leg of lamb. Note: we opened it the night before, had a couple lovely sips, but it really showed well on day two.

Two hours in decanter, then consumed over four hours. Subtle nose. Overall, it's lovely. Well made and well balanced. Not too heavy. Fine, modest tannins. Just enough acidity to stand-up to modestly aggressive food pairings. Just a touch of oak, with mostly dark fruits showing. IMHO, this is drinking well with some time in the decanter. Score in the 93-94 range.

750ml - Decanted and tasted over a couple hours. Dark opaque red, no bricking, no sediment to speak of. Big nose of dark red fruits and some spice. Bold flavors on the palate, with good length and no signs of big E2OH. Enjoyable wine with me and the Mrs. Probably could go another 5 or more years easy but sample it along the way....

Ordered in restaurant with no opportunity to decant. Young and a bit tight but was surprised it was not overpowering with tannins. Needed to open up but was okay. Earthy with hint of mint in the background. Enjoyed it but would like better in 5+ more years.

Super fruity scent wafting out just as I poured it into the decanter. Once in the glass, the nose is still super robust, lots of heat, cassis, Twizzlers (!). Nose of dark berry, leather, something herbal like bergamot....coriander. And ripe plum. Really fun but still really young. Can't wait to see what this does in 15-20 years.

Still pretty young. Popped and poured. Not a lot of complexity and alcohol was pronounced. After an hour or so alcohol gone replaced by green pepper and strong tannins. I think a couple years will do this wine some good. Certainly doesn't deserve a 70...

Similar to a bottle tasted last year. Searing hot alcohol at 15.7%. Completely overblown, impossible with fine food, no potential for aging, a freakish and shameful perversion of what this cuvée used to be.

First, this wine is much too young. So tight and closed up. Decanted for two hours, drank over four. Still holding its mystery and goodness like a royal flush. The nose popped immediately with dark fruit, cassis, and some spice. Full bodied with medium tannins. A bit hot at this time. Flavors of plum, oak, bell pepper, and smoke. I am going to give it another year before trying again.

Deep, dark, inky in color; cannot see through glass. Nose was initially reticent, but it eventually developed with decanting and extended airing into attractive & fragrant aromas of dark cherries, blackberries & dark plums with toasty oak & vanilla overtones, spices, some dark cocoa & coffee ground notes, herbs, a hint of mint and minerals. Full bodied with a very good concentration of youthful, still developing, balanced but somewhat rough textured, rich, ripe dark fruit flavors of sweet cherries, blackberries & plums with vanilla, toasted oak, spices, herbs, mint & minerals. A bit of heat in the otherwise dry finish. Needs additional aging to fully develop and open up further although you could decant it now and allow it to open over time.

A very lengthy decant helped this open up, but it never did come around to my liking. Somewhat fumy nose, thinnish palate, a little green, light on material and a bit warm through the finish. Ample tannins, weak acidity. Age may help this flesh out a bit, but this is quite awkward and I can't imagine it ever coming into pleasant balance. 15.7% abv. Not scored.

I've noted for other vintages that this is a flawless Cali cab. I tasted vs merryvale 2009, which is a personal favorite. The merryvale was deeper and sweeter. However the additional acidity and balance of the bv gave the georges latour the edge. A fine pairing.

For over 70 years the Georges de Latour Private Reserve Cabernet has been the flagship wine of the Beaulieu winery. Grapes for this wine come from the BV Ranches 1 & 2 in Rutherford that were originally planted in the early 1900s by Georges de Latour. 4 hour decant. This wine was deep and rich at the beginning but the tannins built up on the palate and became overbearing. It was no better the next day and perhaps a little worse. Disappointing considering this is their top bottling. Poor value. I have one more bottle and I will give it another couple of years or more before opening.

On the pour, very tight--all tannin. One-hour aerated decant of part of the bottle; tannins were loosening, cherry and red berry fruit on the front with a nice long finish of dusty leather. Three-hour traditional decant was by far the best. Tannin was tamed, fruit was abundant, the finish was elegant and smooth. Definitely recommend a few more years in the bottle, but this is a great little wine.

Tasted at Wine Spectator Grand Tasting Event (Washington DC)
Full disclosure - I am not a big fan of 2010 Napa Cabernets but this is a tremendous bottling that would stack up well against the best Napa has to offer in any vintage. The dark purple hue of the wine is serves as subtext to the beautiful macerated dark fruit fragrance from the glass. On the palate this wine has everything you'd expect from this benchmark Napa cab: cassis, blueberry, lead and cedar. The wine is full bodied and finishes strong (60 seconds). Perhaps the most impressive attribute of the wine is its drinkability despite it's weight and flavor intensity. Cheers!

Alluring rich dark color, aromatic nose, dark black fruit, bittersweet tobacco, with a relatively modest tannic grip. Drinking a nicely now but will be better with some age on it. If you drink it now you will enjoy it and decant it. But your patience’s will be rewarded by at least 2-4 point if you let it age. 88.6 points FOR NOW!

PHMG WAG Napa Cabs: Old vs. New School: A big black wine in every way. Dark color, a black fruit nose and palate, and a stern finish. Has a rustic texture with coarse tannins. It's a bit hot, but all the elements are there and also screaming for attention. Really good days 2-3, ungassed. WAIT.

Bold flavors on the palate, with good length and no signs of big E2OH. Enjoyable wine with me and the Mrs. Probably could go another 5 or more years easy but sample it along the way....

Cheers!
