Over the hill. Mostly just tertiary notes. Dusty leather, soy sauce, raisins, some sour cherry. A touch of rounded tannins balance out the acid some but it's well on the decline.

Poured from a magnum, moderate sediment. Drank over two days and remained fully intact. Smoky, dusty, leathery, classic right bank claret, fruits beginning to recede. Overall very impressed. Seems to be on a nice plateau - should be fine for drinking over the next 3-5 years but not likely to improve so no reason to wait.

PnP. A rather reticent nose here; the '98 D'Aiguilhe still felt pretty young with its opulent dark fruit. Despite the generousity of the fruit, the presentation was a tad rustic and there was something a little awkward about this wine. Probably needs a good decant or a couple more years in the cellar.

My bottles of this were at their peak in 2007 when I wrote "A fine nose of complex fruit with cherry brandy notes . A maturely harmonious and structured palate with good focus, length, roundness and velvety mouth-feel." Seven years later the aromas have lost some bloom and the palate some roundness but it remains a classy right bank claret still with much of those flavours, fresh moreish acidity, perhaps more visible structure and merciful absence of the goopiness which has invaded much of the right bank since the turn of the century.

On day 1 this was not coming out to play, the fruit had gone but the expected secondary aroma were not present just the firm iron and blood of dried out merlot. Day 2 showed this in a different light with beefy and smoky notes, perhaps the CF making the difference. Tannins were quite noticable.
