  • Root Day. Decanted off about a tablespoon of fine sediment. Translucent garnet with the slightest touch of orange at the rim. Nose is classic tar and roses with dried red fruit, dried flowers, dried herbs and a bit of smoke and black licorice. On the palate red fruit initially with herbs and dried flowers after. The tannins are mostly resolved but still very evident but it’s quite smooth and light on the palate even with that. The finish is lovely! Long, warm and rich with licorice, red fruit, tar and herbs. The finish has saved this wine for me tonight at the initial pour. Let’s see what happens in a couple of hours.

An hour in the glass the nose is gorgeous - tar and roses in abundance with dried red fruit and flowers in the background - complex and interesting. Now tar, smoke, dried fruit, leather and herbs on the palate. Finish has shortened but is still lovely.

Now 3 hours in and this wine is singing! Took a while to get here but definitely a 93 at this point (would say perhaps an 89 on pop and pour). With grilled rib eye and mild blue cheese with pommé frites and honey/balsamic carrots. Great pairing!

  • Maybe just the night but it didn't thrill me... much better the next day

  • I've been aging this bottle since 2007. My one and only bottle of Barolo. The colour is a more muted dull red with some brownish hues. Upon opening, the nose is of various grades of velvety chocolate. After decanting for 30 min, I'm getting lots of chocolate scents, medium red fruit, figs, earth or mushroom scents. On the palette, its so smooth with a little acidity but its so well integrated now. Alcohol is completed integrated and all flavours have blended well. No hard edges. Medium body with a good medium finish. A mature wine and one I am impressed and have thoroughly enjoying and very satisfied to have aged and waited after all these years. Not disappointed but grateful. 92-93 pts.

  • Took this to dinner at Bapi's. It is drinking wonderfully, with a distinctly floral nose and pretty plum fruit with a silky mouthfeel. Paired well with the porcini in the various dishes we ordered.
