  • Dark ruby in color with some clearing at the edges. Full, fragrant & attractive nose of ripe red fruit aromas of cherries, blueberries & plums with classic overtones of tobacco & cedar notes, earthy/dusty, leather, spices, herbs, cocoa/mocha notes & a hint of oak/vanilla in the background. Medium-full bodied with a good concentration of well balanced & smooth textured, ripe fruit flavors of sweet cherries, berries & plums, spices, cocoa/coffee, herbs, minerals & a hint of oak/vanilla. Lingering smooth finish. Drinks quite well at present but at 33 years of age it appears to be at its peak of development, so drink up! An indicative blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot & Cabernet Franc. Fill was in lower neck; cork was stained 3/4 way up but intact.

  • Whatttt - served blind, wouldn't have guessed any older than 2001. Still structured but with a sweet round red fruit that was lush and delicious. Lots of cherry and acid in the wine. It's definitely more hedonistic but not overwhelming, but it has the underbelly in its frame to go along for the wine. Really delicious bottle.

  • Part of our No Wine Under 25 (Yr) tasting. Opened to a light to medium color. Again notes of pepper, with some red fruits, a hint of mint and coffee. Still drinking well.

  • side-by-side with the '95, the '91 is austere, lacking in balance and finish. Well past its prime, though i doubt there was much of one anyway.

  • This is a very good Merlot. The finish was so long that it makes me think I will save some and try it again tomorrow. Duckhorn's early 90's Merlot are significantly different than cabs, something I'm not seeing recently. The fruit is more acidic and lighter. This wine has a cherry/strawberry/raspberry taste versus merlots made 10 years later which are so close to cabs. All in all, a very enjoyable bottle.
