notes 3 days late; wine was decanted 2 hrs; Rich nose of plum and berry fruits; very similar flavors, good body, not tired or thin from age; Cab fruit was very rich and long lasting compared to the younger red(1er cru) Burgundy served next to it. Very smooth long finish. Seemed 20 yrs younger except for the seamless front to finish experience only time brings.

Dark ruby in color with some minor bricking & clearing at the edges. Full, fragrant & attractive nose of ripe red fruit aromas of cherries & plums with classic overtones of tobacco & cedar notes, earthy/dusty, some leather notes, spices, herbs, cocoa/mocha notes & a hint of vanilla in the background. Medium-full bodied with a good concentration of well balanced & smooth textured, ripe fruit flavors of sweet cherries, berries & tart plums, spices, cocoa & coffee, herbs, minerals & a hint of vanilla. Lingering smooth finish. Drinks quite well at present but at 40 years of age it appears to be at its peak of development, so drink up!

Wow, this wine still has a great amount of fruit. I wasnt expecting much and was blown away. Very Bcx Style with cigar box and shoe leather followed by some light cherry. Really exciting bottle to enjoy.

Cork was surprisingly in tact, but sadly this was a flawed bottle.

One of the best CA Merlot's I have ever had. It evolved throughout the night. The last bottle of wine I shared with my Dad.
