Dark ruby in color with some clearing at the edges. Full, fragrant & attractive nose of ripe red fruit aromas of cherries & plums with classic overtones of tobacco & cedar notes, earthy/dusty, some leather notes, spices, herbs, cocoa/mocha notes & a hint of oak/vanilla in the background. Medium-full bodied with a good concentration of well balanced & smooth textured, ripe fruit flavors of sweet cherries, berries & plums, spices, cocoa, herbs, minerals & a hint of oak/vanilla. Lingering smooth finish. Drinks quite well at present but at over 34 years of age it appears to be at its peak of development, so drink up! Fill was mid-neck; cork crumbled upon opening.

Part of our No Wine Under 25 (Yr.) tasting. A very light tea coloring. The nose was reticent but developed some pepper, a hint of tea and some cherry. Very smooth and still drinking (but probably not for much longer).

Opened for about 30 minutes before serving but did not decant; The surprise of the evening. A wonderful, light garnet coloring without any bricking on the rim. Finally a fully mature Duckhorn! Notes of tea, white pepper, a hint of mint and some black fruits. The tannins had departed, but still held everything together. The wine lingered in the glass for about an hour before starting to fade.

1988 Cabernet Retrospective, Part 2 (Tom's house in Palo Alto, California): Strange, but still excellent nose. Quite refined palate.
My #4, Group's #8 (97 pts) Tasted blind and disliked by most in today's tasting. I thought it was different, but did't dislike it.
