absolutely beautiful, with red fruit plus spice and elegance galore... delicate and complex (for lack of a better word)... wow how different this magnum is from the 750ml bottle I had in 2017 (based on my note from then)... lovely lovely lovely... I love old Calera, one of the only producers I have found that can age great pinots from Cali

Slightest hint of bricking but still a very dark pinot. From magnum. Medium to full bodied; nose of smoked cherry and spice. Flavors of smoky cherry and tart raspberry, plus spicy finish. Once this bottle was discovered by my California-based in-laws, this went from half-full to empty pretty quickly. Tasted far younger than most would expect for a 2005. Wish I had another couple magnums of this!

Owned since release. Compared to the other 2005s this one is the most candied and has a higher ABV. Although this particular style isn’t my favorite, as I’ve preferred the other vineyards more, it is a testament to the quality winemaking that this keeps it all together after so many years. Dark purple and red hues all the way to the edges still. Maybe just the faintest hint of bricking. Strong scents of kirsch, all spice and baked spicy cherries. There is a sappy sucrosity that is surprising for a wine that’s 15 years old. It remains luscious to nearly the end with a bit of heat on the finish.

Lovely color and clarity, raspberry. Fragrant nose of floral and lavender. Initial earth flavors of mushroom and sandalwood. Plenty of fruit. Ripe strawberries. Great spicy white pepper into a long finish. Smooth and fine tannins. Flat out fab.
