  • Popped and poured, immediately expressive cherry nose. Acidity and Tannins M, with developing sweetness overlaying a Bordeaux-like palate. Long finish.

My sharing on Triple date night with dearest Oldham bros, TC and ET, this was outshone by the GPL 2012, a Fifth Growth Bdx costing half as much as this!

Good but I expected and perhaps wanted this to be more Bordeaux chameleon like, it certainly wasn't. Don't mean to compare, but WMKs Yarra Yering No.1 Agincourt of the same 2005 vintage blew this out of the water!

Cab (46%), Merlot (26%), Cabernet franc (18%), Malbec (5%) and Petit verdot (5%).

Very limited production but unsure of precisely how many cases.

This is Dr John Middleton's second to last vintage, before his passing.

  • Drank this during a wine dinner at Phoenix Garden (Ngee Ann City). Theme of the Evening: Langton's Exceptional Cabernet Dinner. Wines were served two at a time for comparison and contrast.

A wine made up with 4 grape varietals: 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc, 5% Malbec and 5% Petit Verdot. Complex, dazzling, and bordering sophistication. The quintet of grapes added different dimensions to the wine. As compared to the 2005 Cullen Diana Madeline, this wine presents more changes to the profile over the course of the dinner. Notes of dark cherries, ripe plums, cassis and blackberries coupled with scents of wild violets and dried herbs, dark chocolate and hints of vanilla.

  • Diam. Opaque garnet. Moderate intensity nose of green capsicum and blackcurrants. Light to medium-bodied and supple in texture, the ripe blackcurrant fruit is front and square in the midpalate, flanked by some slightly bitter graphite notes. Considerable midpalate persistence. Tannins fully resolved, and a thread of acidity is woven through the midpalate. Only quibble is that the wine is rather one-noted and has not developed much complexity from a flavour perspective. Impression is that this vintage is about the level of a good Cru Bourgeois from a good vintage. Unsure what further cellaring is going to do to this wine.

    (Professionally cellared since release).

  • A solid but not outstanding Quintet. Elegant and it felt of the lighter side of medium bodied, a little leafy and probably not the depth and concentration from better iterations. Lovey nose of pencil shavings, bay leaf and tobacco, palate is red fruits, baking spices and cedar. Also didn’t quite have the length I was expecting. Nonetheless, a lovely drinking wine that is in a good window but not sure I see too much more upside from here.

  • Diam. Drunk over two nights with no significant change. A lovely Quintet. Red and black fruit, some leafy elements, florals and a faint hint of cedar. Elegant and relaxed. Tannins are resolved and smooth. Very integrated and well balanced. No edges. Ready to go now, but based on this bottle, there is no rush.
