Bob's cellar. Deep dark garnet red., very faint bricking. Nose is sweet Christmas spices, pungent clove (?), menthol, receded black fruit, soft berries. Aged and spicy Shiraz tones stand out initially, still good after all these years. Magnum makes a difference with the freshness.

Seal looking dodgy but cork base was excellent and made the journey successfully over the past 25 years. Dark ruby colour at the core with rose edges in the glass. Nose really opens up getting plums, creaming soda, vanilla, cinnamon. Silky palate with burst of cooked fruits and some acidity showing an overall balanced wine. Long finish with complex tertiary notes of tar, leather and hint of cola at the start. Sublime within an hour of opening.

Saturday hangout (socially distanced) (Chicago, IL): Served double blind. The generous fruit and pyrazines made me think of Napa, but when told it wasn't, Australia was my next go-to. There appears to be some American oak on this as well and as a result for a moment I thought that this might have been Monte Bello, but decided against it as this seemed racier and leaner.

NobleRottersSydney - Mount Mary (Fix, St James, Sydney): {cork, 12.5%} True development on show here; currants, a twist of exotic sweetness and cedar on the nose. The extra maturity gives it a luxurious, decadent air; not that it’s showing any structural strain. The palate is all molten currents, black plums, seductively laced with cedar, always shot through with ripeness, perfectly judged. Medium/full body, with medium dusty tannins and medium acidity. The trademark even palate; engaging the full length of the tongue. Lingering, long and gentle finish. Spectacular but not showy; just beautiful. Melds the best of Bordeaux and the best of Oz into a truly impressive package which can age plenty longer still.

The magnum bottle presented very well, with a well preserved cork. Reasonable amount of sediment visible on the side of the bottle. Colour was dark burgandy with a strong hint of brown in the rim. Medium bodied, with a very well rounded flavour, very smooth and drinkable. Notes of cherry and wood notes, touch of soil, with a lot of oak in the finish. Well balanced acidity and tanin, starting a bit acidic with a long tanin aftertaste.
