  • At Cherwell Boathouse, Oxford: Very drinkable, oaky, tending toward the richer end of the merlot spectrum. An excellent restaurant wine -- the full St. Emilion experience at a reasonable cost.

  • As I’ve steadily tasted this since 2015, this one seemed to emphasize more acidity and balance, unlike the previous vintages. It felt more like super tuscan or something, not bordeaux, but I liked it, not as much as 2015 but as its own style.

  • Color is deep red with a purplish tint characteristic of good St Emilion.

Nose: highly tannic, medium leather, not very fruit forward.

Palate: good medium acidity, a slight astringency in the tannins; red cherries not dark; a hint of tomato.

Finish: medium length, a bit of black pepper.

This is good but we preferred the Jean Faux special cuvée “Les Sources” and the Pomerol. Tasted at Voilà wine bar in Bordeaux (9€ / glass).

  • Sweet, elegant, fresh and focused on its ripe, cherry, plum and licorice tones, the wine is forward and fruity with just a hint of chocolate on the back end. This will be delicious on release.
