Part of a small Napa 2015 vintage horizontal, focusing on Realm and Bevan. My main observations were that 2015 is more extracted and ripe than 2014 or 2016, less elegant but with more weight. The wines were generally open and in a good spot, but still all primary. Tannin structures are soft
Tasting note: Broad and layered fruit profile with black cassis, dried plum, blueberry and red berry. This is accompanied by spice and a minty overlay which add freshness. But there is more going on with notes of liquorish and cinnamon, black truffles and pencil shavings. This showed incredibly detailed aromatics. The palate didn’t disappoint either, coming across sumptuous and weightless with a satin texture, a splash more freshness from the acidity, ultra-soft tannin and a finish that tickles the senses with a spicey kick. In this direct comparison with The Bard and Farella the Beckstoffer-to-Kalon came out on top, adding additional detail and precision to the already fabulous Farella.

Hugely extracted, to the point that there is a slightly astringent bite on the finish. Very rich fruit driven, menthol is strong here, also loads of blueberry, damson and blackberry. Structure is big, there is freshness here to give balance but this is resolutely full bodied. Long finish, some complexity already.still very young, try again in 5 years. Will fruit ever recede to hive a balanced wine? I doubt it, but will happily try again in 10 years.

This was simply not ready to drink. I slow-oxed for 16 hours and it was still coiled up tight. I then put some in a powered decanter for 10 to 15 minutes and it improved significantly but still not ready. I would let these sit for at least 5 more years. I do think this has enormous upside potential between 97 to 100 but I'm not convinced the QPR is there for my palate.

Initial nose of cinnamon, muted red fruit, still some oak, other stuff I can’t identify but it all worked. On the palate, candied cherry, black olive, chocolate covered berry fruits. A curt finish that just stopped, weird. BTK all the way, great grapes, not fully evolved just yet.
At 2 hrs, consistent with others views, this got better, but for my palate this is still too big and needs to relax and let some secondaries come out! I worry the boisterous nature of Realm requires earlier drinking but indeed these need to rest beyond seven years. Try again in 2025 earliest. No score tonite as this was a last second pull and did not get proper air time.

Just an amazing wine. Amazing purity of fruit. Sweet blueberry, blackberry and cassis flavors with hints of spice and incense, in perfect balance with a nice long finish. While there is ample fruit this bottle had enough acidity to keep the wine fresh
