  • Had at dinner party. Cork was so crystallized against the inner edge of the bottle that the cork burst. It became hard to get a decent pour without cork dust. Overall the wine was solid but not as good as the 2008. Less graphite and dust I usually expect with old Relams. Medium finish.

  • At Gibson's Italia in Chicago with TG. Great food, amazing views, corkage friendly...Cork crumbled on the way out, same as last bottle but wine was fine. Decanted about 30 minutes prior, drank over 90 minutes.

Medium garnet color, some separation. From notes last year: "Nose of dark fruits, cassis and licorice. Palate showing blue fruit liqueur, roasted berry, minerals, licorice and smoke. Densely packed and powerful...tannins have settled, silky mouthfeel. Full bodied, great nuance and length on the finish."

This continues to refine and mellow, in a really good spot. Tannins are sweet and softened, long and elegant finish. Should last a while but not likely to improve much (IMO) - may be as good as it will get... great bottle from Realm

  • Thanksgiving was a good excuse to check in on this, its been a few years. Cork broke on the way out, strained and decanted for about 2 hours prior to drinking.

Dark ruby core, mild separation. Nose of dark fruits, cassis and licorice. Palate showing blue fruit liqueur, roasted berry, minerals, licorice and smoke. Densely packed and powerful, even pushing 15 years of age...tannins have settled, silky mouthfeel. Full bodied, great nuance and length on the finish.

Big and refined, really great expression of Beckstoffer fruit, aged nicely with probably 10+ more years to go. Did not need the same length of decant (from prior notes) with more stringent characteristics when first opened - was ready after about 30 minutes. Really beautiful wine on this evening...

  • Tampa Spring Break III; 2/16/2018-2/18/2018 (Tampa FL): This one had what I describe as Cotton Candy on the nose - which is a note I often find in certain Napa Cabs. Interesting because while I find the smell a bit too sweet, I often find that wines with this nose profile - this was no exception. Dark red and black raspberries, freshly tilled soil, dry leaves and then smooth tannins. Very nice silky mouthfeel - quite enjoyable!
