From 75cl, good cork softening and fragile 1cm at lower end, decanted 45 minutes. Gorgeous scent of graphite/lead pencil, dark asian spice, leather and dry tobacco; entry light and lithe, some residual blackcurrant hints, higher acidity than expected, but otherwise seems typical for a sound Médoc GCC from a poor year, in full-to-late maturity. Lovely now, but don't keep too long. 90-91P

Had friends over for dinner. Decided to open a mature Bordeaux. Started with 2 bottles and we were not disappointed. Although the color was showing some signs of ageing the wine was elegant, smooth and drinking great and going down easily. It still had some fruits and berries in it and was nice on the nose. Just like a well kept mature Bordeaux is supposed to be. A third bottle entered the history books before the night was over.

Clearly beat expectations. Full nose of earthy wood and dark fruit. Medium body. Coming together in layers of remarkably fresh fruit with tobacco and leathery notes. Showing what mature Pauillac should be even if this is on the lighter side. Silky smooth and long balanced finish. An odd bottle that have been laying in my cellar for a long time and now i wish i had more of these.

Solbær, bjørnebær, mandler, litt jordbær, lær og tobakk. Ble mer sødmefull med luft. Sjarmerende vin, men som for andre 1997-Bordeauxene jeg har smakt mangler de litt struktur og er litt "all over the place".
