Magnum Tasting at Yan's China Bistro, nose of black cherry fruit, dusty forest floor, more of the same on the palate, tasty, surprisingly both simple and tired fruit, medium body, medium/long finish, disappointing. My #5/7.

The Blind Drunks monthly tasting (Our house): Garnet color. Notes of olives, mint and evergreen upon pouring. Opened quite a bit in the glass- very florally/perfumed, with plum and dark fruit notes. Nice balance, with sweet, slightly chewy tannins. Flavors of dark fruit initially, turning to red currants and cherry with time. Long finish. 91-92 pts.

Decanted about 1 hour before taking to the restaurant. Dark red / garnet colored; a very pretty nose of fruit, earth and mushrooms; an intial mouthful of fruit that turns slightly bitter and astringent on the finish. Went very well with food: I had the lamb filet mignon with madeira sauce, potato gratin, grilled shiitake mushrooms and watercress. However, it was tough to drink this alone once the food was gone. Interesting wine experience, but would not buy again.

Waited too long. Past its prime and nothing like it probably was 5-7 years ago. Too bad

Needs to be decanted and left at least a 1/2 hour to breath. I was suprised by the fruitiness. Still had some tannins left. Definately past its prime.
