  • Expectations were too high for this I think or maybe not a great bottle for a restaraunt purchase. Really wound up and super tannic. Would keep it in the bottle for a 5+ years or decant for 2 hours if opening now.

Started to open up a little after an hour. Little blueberry and sour cherry. Super tannic backbone.

  • Quite good. Probably worth the price, too.

  • Melka Estates Tasting (Napa Grill, Zurich): Big Melka Estates tasting with various wines produced by Philippe and Cherie Melka, both present at the event, including the largest Jumping Goat vertical to date. Selected notes of the winemaker comments included in the tasting story. All wines we tasted showed a European inspired handwriting (Graves, Rhone valley) especially for older vintages with later vintages (2012- 2014) coming across quite heavy on the extraction. But with most scores in the 91-94 range (few exceptions included Jumping Goat 2005 and Martinez 2015, the first vintage for the latter), the line-up struggled to meet my high expectations.

    Tasting note:
A bit less extracted than 2013-14, alomst a cool type of fruit. Good structure, tension and intensity. For once not the strongest vintage in a Napa vertical.

  • During a vertical tasting, flight two 12-16. well managed Napa CabSav. Richer than the Mekerea but still good balance, before 2010. i was less convinced with the wines of flight two. They were mostly too rich, sweetish, marmelade. The 2012 and 2016 were the freshest of that flight.

  • Coravin pour. This wine soared out of the glass with blueberries, cherries, dark chocolate, spice box and hints of tobacco. Super fresh, lively and energetic, it showed exceptionally ripe, lush and racy on the pallet. Has a great tannic backbone, but is suave and vibrant, with tons of class and total harmony of all elements. Mostly medium bodied and with many layers of red and blue fruit, this hits all the senses just right. Finish is about 30 secs. I think this wine is likely to put on some weight in the bottle and be amazing in a couple years. 95++
